It’s the beginning of fall, which means breaking out your old fixie and whipping your glutes back into shape in order to get to class on time. UCSB is a great place to ride, boasting over 10 miles of bike paths and was named a Gold Level-Bicycle Friendly University from the League of American Bicyclists. In addition to being a great mode of transportation, biking is a great way to stay fit. For those not so keen on riding in the great outdoors or are just looking for a dynamic workout, the Department of Recreation offers a selection of incredible Gaucho REC Group Cycling classes. Group Cycling is a high intensity cardio workout choreographed to music from warm up to cool down. Our Schwinn Fitness™ certified instructors are there to keep you focused, motivated, and engaged for a results oriented workout.

The recently remodeled Group Cycling Studio features 24 Schwinn AC Performance Plus cycles with MPower Echelon consoles. These monitor RPM as well as your heart rate and calories burned. Group cycling classes are suitable for riders of all experience levels. Fall course offerings include: ‘All Level’ (this course can be tailored to an individual’s fitness level, ‘Cycle & Core’ and ‘Cycle Circuit’) focused on target areas for maximum calorie burning and toning, and ‘Endurance Ride’ (for the experienced cyclist striving to be challenged, this extended class ramps up the intensity by incorporating advanced cycling drills). Class size is limited so sign up early for your chance to give this challenging, exhilarating and fun workout a spin.

The Department of Recreation is honored to provide the community of Santa Barbara and the University’s students, staff, and faculty with quality classes at an affordable price. We take pride in nourishing personal growth and friendships, and constantly works to provide engaging and healthy environments for such relationships and development to take place. We encourage you to get involved, try something new and ‘Find Your Fit’ with UCSB Recreation.
