It has a few contract specialists. These are paid for by the banner advertising.

FreeBMD, the original project, is now FreeUKGenealogy, a registered charity. Not only is it preserving the old manuscripts and making them available for free, but many of our transcribers have special needs. Many are disabled or housebound carers. We are their link to the world and it gives them a purpose in life. There is one who is 50 miles out in the outback of Australia, with just a few farm hands and millions of sheep. A microwave link to the internet is all that they need.
