Do you like to swim? Do you like to fsh? Do you enjoy the oce n? Cle n W ter st rts with Cle n Highw ys! We all live in a watershed. And, all living things need clean water. That’s why we need to keep stormwater runoff clean. Rain falls onto our highways and roadways and fows into storm drains and it eventually fows out of the storm drains into waterways.

During its journey, water picks up lots of pollution along the way. By keeping our highways clean, we can help keep our water clean.

New Words Watershed An outlined area of land that leads water to fow to a waterbody like: stream, rivers, lake, or ocean.

Stormwater Rain or water runoff that falls to the ground, fows across the ground and ends up in the storm drain systems.

You can do your part to keep our water clean by:

Always putting trash in the garbage can

Helping keep the vehicle clean inside and out

Letting your parents know if you see the vehicle leaking on the driveway and ask them to fx it

Pollution Things that are bad for the environment like car fuids, dirt, trash, cigarettes and bug killers called pesticides.

Runoff Water that fows into storm drains and waterbodies and can pick up pollution along the way.
