What Does the Project Achieve?A centralized Master Data Management tool will allow for standardized hierarchies, enable visibility ofdata, reduce manual processes, improve data integrity, and reduce reconciliations.

• High level structure only. Not all applications are pictured.

DRM Provides:•Consistent Hierarchies•Consistent Reference Data•Single Point of Maintenance

The DRM ImplementationThe DRM Implementation

DRM Configuration Team Structure• A joint effort between Dell and Oracle Consulting Services• Team Members Included:

• Dell Project Lead (1) – fully dedicated• Oracle Consulting Lead (1)• Oracle Consultants (2) • Dell Functional Team Members (2) – fully dedicated• Dell I/T Team Members (2) • Representation from each downstream system – not direct

members of the project team

Scope of the DRM Implementation• Identify common reference data• Centralize the Source, Centralize the Maintenance

•AFF Segment Values including Account, Cost Center and Product

•Segment attributes

•Descriptive flexfield information

Hyperion Planning

•Global Hierarchies

•Application specific reference data - 6 global applications

•HYP model was introduced concurrently

•Due to the complexity of planning at Dell, this was the most challenging

Hyperion Financial Mgmt

•Global Hierarchies

•Application specific reference data

•Due to the new hierarchy structures an application redesign occurred at the same time

Ariba/WOW/Pheonix/MTrack

•Decommissioned the current cost center role application and replaced with DRM

•Requires a daily feed of Dell employees and background processing

Dell Data Warehouse

•Interface the Global Hierarchies

•Interface required common reference data

•New hierarchies required a rewrite of existing model and reports

Implementation Example – Interfacing Chart of Account Segment Values to Oracle from DRM

Data

Analysts enter hierarchy information and limited

reference data.

DRM defaults and derives other reference data

Data flows through a series of verifications and is then sent

downstream

The DRM Implementation Approach• Perform scoping analysis to determine key systems• Gather system requirements for interface designs• Conduct data reviews with each system to clearly define

property configurations (define defaults, derivation logic, and system verifications). Design a template!

• Define the maintenance and governance approach – centralized, decentralized, request systems, workflow, etc…

• Begin loading test data into DRM – start validating the data. Validation is key. If multiple sources have been maintaining the same data, it’s going to have differences.

• Build back-end processes where necessary• Complete the testing phase – this is tough – lots of data!• Accomplish a Successful Production Release!

DB Tables

At Dell, a typical monthly maintenance cycle includes up to 10,000 rows of data changes. With application reference data now being stored in DRM, off-cycle maintenance will increase.

How is Maintenance Technically Processed?

Current Version Copied

•A copy of the current version in DRM is copied to a “Meta” version

Meta Maintenence

•The monthly maintenance is loaded into the Meta version and extracted to the “Meta” tables

HFM Reconciliation

•HFMMeta loads from the “Meta” tables in order to test the maintenance ties out

Maintenance to PROD

•Once the data ties out, the maintenance can be loaded into the Current version in DRM
