Pre-Set CombinationsEach manual of theorgan is equippedwith nine pre-setcombination keys. Inaddition, there aretwo sets of manually

adjustable controls for each keyboard,thus making twenty-two differentregistrations which are instantlyavailable, in addition, of course, to themany thousands of variations availableby adjustment of the "harmonicdrawbars."

The Selective Vibrato StopsThe great and swell manuals are pro-

vided withseparate "ON-OFF" vibratocontrols inthe form of

tilting stop tablets. The rotating control"VIBRATO AND CHORUS" has sixpossible positions corresponding tothree degrees of vibrato and threedegrees of vibrato chorus. The controlpre-selects the extent of vibrato orvibrato chorus which will be obtainedwhen either of the manual vibrato"ON-OFF" stops is used.

Touch ResponsePercussion ControlPercussion tones may be producedwith a key-controlled "touch-response"in which desired notes of a melodymay be accentuated. Now at your touchare effects like harp, chimes, orchestralbells, celeste, xylophone, marimba and

a whole newworld offascinatingpercussiontones, which

may be expressively introduced in amanner not found on any other organ.

Information Center

The drawbars, control tablets androtary controls affect the operationsnecessary for performance on theorgan. Advanced features such asdrawbar voice mode, pedal sustainlength etc., are accessed using theInformation Center. This allows theplayer to see and make changes. TheInformation Center Display and touchbuttons are located on a drawer unitpositioned under the right side of thelower manual.

Sound Engine andDirect AnalogueKeying™

Let us now consider the new digital tonegenerator and see how it produces thesound. The unique Hammond B-3 soundis reproduced by a revolutionary newlydesigned sound generator system (96 digital Tone Wheels). This newdigital Tone Wheel generator perfectlygenerates pure tones that is tones whichhave no harmonic content of their own.This purity is essential in order to attaina desirable tonal cohesion between thefundamental and its harmonics whenthey are mixed through the use of thedrawbars.

When a manual key is pressed, it closes10 small electrical switch contacts.These contacts are connected to thedigital Tone Wheel generator as well as to

the drawbars. The positions of thedrawbars (which are under control of theplayer) determine the intensities of theindividual electrical currentscorresponding to the fundamental and itsharmonics. After leaving the drawbars,the various electrical currents areconnected together (or "mixed") to form asingle complex current which flows fromthe console to the Leslie cabinet where itis amplified and caused to operate thespeakers. The swell pedal varies theintensity (or volume) of this complexcurrent before it reaches the speakers.

Rotary Control Panel

The new Hammond B-3 has a RotaryControl Panel which is located under-neath the manuals on the extreme leftside. The organist can use thesecontrols to adjust the sound of theinstrument such as: master volume,bass, treble, reverb, overdrive etc.

MIDI

The New Hammond B-3 has a MIDIOUT jack which is located underneaththe organ on the left side. To controlanother MIDI instrument (synthesizer,

sound module, etc.) from the organ,connect the MIDI OUT from the organto the MIDI IN of the instrument youwant to control.Due to the unique tone-generationsystem of the New Hammond B-3, itdoes not implement MIDI IN or MIDITHRU.

The RegistrationPrinciple of theHammond OrganThis is the original, unique feature ofthe Hammond Organ which makes itcompletely different from any otherorgan. In the Hammond Organ, thebasic elements of all musical tones(the fundamental and its harmonicovertones) are made separately avail-able to the organist. Furthermore, theirrelative strengths may be adjusted atthe will by the organist. The drawbarsof the Hammond Organ are provided

for this purpose. Flute-like tones, forinstance, may be produced by a certaincombination of these drawbars; string-like effects by another combina-tion; or the effects of both strings andflutes by still a different combinationof the same drawbars. Thus, the draw-bars provide the tonal ingredients fromwhich the various registrations may becompounded.

Multiple Speaker ConnectionThe New B-3 Hammond Organ has two11-pin Leslie connectors, one markedMAIN and the other marked ECHO,making it easy to connect multipleLeslie Speakers to the organ.

Speed SwitchA Leslie Speed Switch is provided withthe New B-3 Hammond Organ to allowcontrol of the Leslie Speaker rotorsfrom the organ console.

Main/Echo Switch

When two Leslie Speakers areconnected to the organ, the optionalMain/Echo switch will allow the soundto come from only the Main cabinet,only the Echo cabinet, or both cabinetssimultaneously.

Any 11-pin Leslie tone-cabinet canbe used with the New B-3. TwoLeslie connectors are provided toallow Main/Echo switching betweentwo or more Leslie’s. For optimumperformance, we recommend theLeslie model 122 XB.

The B-3 is reborn Since its introduction in 1955, theHammond B-3 has become theessential performance tool for theworld’s great keyboard players. Theinstantly recognizable b-3 sound isessential in the world of popularmusic, while no concert stage wouldseem complete without a B-3’simposing wooden cabionet.

Now, for the first time, Hammondhas exactly replicated the original B-3 design specification with theintroduction of the New B-3.

The unique B-3 sound is reproducedby a revolutionary new soundgenerator system which recreates allof the idiosyncrasies of the tone-wheel generator.

Two 61 note manuals with deluxesquare-front keys allow for theessential performance charateristicsof the Hammond masters. Fourcomplete sets of Harmonic Drawbarsand latching programmable PresetKeys allow total ease of set up.

The Drawbar Foldback feature subtlyaffects the overall sound, while theall-new Direct Analog Keyingmechanism creates the famous “KeyClick” an essential component of theB-3 character. Sound dynamics arecontrolled by an exact copy of theoriginal B-3 expression curveincorporated in the new instrument’sExpression Pedal.

Only Hammond has thequalifications and knowledge toaccurately reproduce the look,sound and feel of the legendaryB-3. Now the B-3 is reborn.
