Sports Report Badminton Our Badminton team advanced all 16 student-athletes through to the regional competition after hosting the district championships. This was the best overall finish for our badminton team and several indi-vidual and doubles teams finished with a very good win-loss record. Navee “Kla” Sarawangoor was our best performer, finishing in second place at regionals, earning the right to represent NNEC at Provincials. Kla finished in 4th place at Provincials!

Frisbee Frisbee is off to a fast start again this year and the team has already played in their first tournament. After a valiant effort during round rob-in play, the team managed to grind it out and make it to the championship game. In the championship the team lost to NRHS 10-8 in a very closely contested game. The team will now start regional league play. The provincial tournament is on May 13-14th. Good luck!

Hockey In March, our girls’ hockey team lost in the round robin at Provincials and were eliminated from chasing the Provincial Gold. Although games were hard to come by, overall, they had a very successful sea-son. We must congratulate our graduating players on a fine hockey career at NNEC. Thank you to all coaches that got involved and gave up their time to voluntarily coach all year!

Our boys’ hockey team had a great finish to their season coming out on top as Provincial Champions at the Division 1 level! They dominat-ed play throughout the Provincial tournament in Bridgewater and we know they boys represented our school and community with the ut-most respect for the game. Congratulations to all graduating players and special thanks to our voluntary coaching staff who endured all season!

Snowboard Team The NNEC snowboard team had an exceptional regional competition! The Intermediate Boys won the Northumberland Regional banner. Team members are Dylan Wagner, Dylan MacKinnon, Kenzie MacKin-non, and Marcus MacIvor. Madison Baudoux qualified for provincials in the Intermediate Girls category and Zeynep Kartal qualified for

provincials in the Senior Girls catego-ry. The teams Provincial run was

very good with Dylan Wagner again leading the way to a top ten finish.

Softball The Girls’ softball team has

been selected and they will have a busy month of May putting in games

until regional competition the week of May 23rd. The girls will host a 6 team tournament on May 13-14th in Trenton. Good luck girls on your push to the finish line! #back2backproviechamps?

Boys’ softball is in full swing and they have a very busy month of May ahead with close to 16 games scheduled. The boys will travel to Syd-ney on May 20-21 for a 6 team tournament and then host Amherst to determine the regional champ the week of May 23rd. Good luck!

Table Tennis Table Tennis team traveled to Sherbrooke in mid-April for the district championships with all 15 student-athletes advancing to regionals. Our Intermediate boys team of Evan Callaghan, Jake Martin, Chad Russell, and Josh Jota dominated competition at districts and even upset the #1 ranked JH Gillis intermediate team to claim the #1 rank-ing going into regionals. While at regionals, the team experienced much success again. The Intermediate boys and senior girls both fin-ished tops in their pool while the intermediate girls and senior boys finished 2nd and 3rd in their respective pools. All teams lost in the cross-over semifinals which would have given them a chance to advance to provincials! The future is bright for the NNEC Pong Squad!

Track Track is in full training mode at the moment as the team gets ready for a very busy month of May! The team hosts the district champion-ships on May 13-14th weekend and then travels to Truro for Regional competition on May 27-28th. Provincials is the first weekend in June and are being hosted at the Pioneer Coal Athletic Field in Stellarton. Good luck to all trackies!

NNEC’s annual True Grit Run will take place in early

November 2016. More details to follow!

Thank You to all who partici-pated in the 2016 Marathon of

Respect & Equality!

All student-athletes are reminded to please pass in all outstanding team uniforms and athletic fees to Mr. Hampton by June 10th. If team uniforms/team fees are not passed in, students will not receive their final school reports.
