FACT: The Australian coal mining industrys output will more
than double over the period rom 2010 to 2050, Treasurymodelling shows. More than $96 billion worth o investment in
the coal industry is currently in the pipeline.
FACT:Steel manuacturers will ace a carbon price averagingonly $1.30 per tonne o emissions and will be given extra
assistance under the $300 million Steel Transormation Plan.Abbott opposed the Steel Transormation Plan.
FACT:The carbon price will not impose an annual $400 price
increase on new cars. Materials that make up over 90 per cento the emissions embodied in a typical car are shielded romthe carbon price. Motor industry output is projected to grow
aster under a carbon price than with no carbon price.
Abbott says: A carbon tax ultimately means deathto the coal industry.
Abbott says: Ultimately it [the steel industry] willdisappear meaning that Australian steel will have to be
imported rom overseas

preerred his Direct Action policy to a market mechanism like
the carbon price.
FACT: Mr Abbott reused to have his so-called Direct Action
policy costed by Treasury.
FACT: Mr Abbotts Direct Action policy could not achieve this
without imposing a cost o at least $48 billion on taxpayers. By
ruling out international trade in carbon permits, it would doublethe cost to the economy o reducing pollution.

introducing an emissions trading scheme. In 2009 he also said:I also think that i you want to put a price on carbon, why not

climate change is absolute crap.
