Age-group world championship in any sport are crucial for developing and
anything away from the outstanding on court performances from the athletes aged 21 and under but to emphasise the importance of the FIVB Junior and Youth World Championships.
These events, held every two years, are the livelihoods of our sport. Without this young talent coming through, we would have no stars playing our top tournaments tomorrow. The future of volleyball is dependent on them and that is the reason why I advocate so strongly for the FIVB to invest in vol-leyball at this level, especially in development and to support our national federations. And it is not just the athletes who play an integral role. Coaches,

Brazil’s record of having medalled 11 times including in the last seven edi-tions while participating in all 16 editions of the biennial tournament has to
podium for the 10th time.
While we saw some outstanding talent on the court, making it all happen was also an outstanding effort off the court. It gives me great pleasure to congra-tulate the Peru Volleyball Federation for the excellent job they did of hosting the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship.
It was pleasing to see Peru as a host of a premier FIVB event again for the

Dear friends:
A few months ago when we were appointed by the FIVB World Congress in Rome to organize the 2011 Junior World Championship, we never imagined the enormous challenge that this project represented. Now, that the tournament has ended and the lights have gone out on this celebration of international volleyball’s promising young women, we feel the satisfaction of having fulfilled our duties and we think it is now time to give thanks to everyone, who from different standing points, made this wonderful experience possible for all of us.
I will begin this long list by acknowledging the FIVB and its President Jizong Wei, for the trust bestowed upon us, and also express our gratitude to the Peruvian Sports Authorities for their permanent support in making this dream become a beautiful reality. In like manner, I wish to thank each member of the Organizing Committee for their commitment, hard work, and dedication, as well as the Spon-sors and our Host Broadcaster “Frecuencia Latina” for their decisive support to Peruvian Volleyball.
Our sports fans present on every date of the tournament in Lima, Callao, and Trujillo, deserve special acknowledgment for their generous applauses and their support of the players’ enthusiasm and commitment present at every match. To the young players, the future of international volleyball, our greatest admiration for the effort and dedication displayed during the tournament, showing us the beauty of this sport, and for making us a part of this message of peace and fra-ternity shared with the whole world.
To conclude, we wish to acknowledge the work of media; thanks to their cove-rage and reports we were fortunate to make headline news. To them and to everyone who supported this joint effort, we wish to express our deepest grati-tude. We look forward with great hope to a new opportunity, as before, to await you arms wide open and invite you all to share a new celebration of this sport.
See you soon!

The Italian team had arrived in silence and after assimilating the blow of their early defeat to Brazil –the favourite of the tournament - the team worked hard and at the end celebrated with great enthusiasm being honoured as the best at the 2011 Women’s Junior World Cup held in Peru in the cities of Lima, Trujillo, and Callao from July 22nd to July 31st. Alongside Caterina Bosetti, considered the Most Valuable Player of the Cup, Italy defeated the Brazilian team by 21-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-22.

warMI was the official mascot or the World Championship. Inspired by the native Peruvian language Quechua, Warmi means Woman. This friendly puppy was an active fan and entertainer throughout the whole tournament.
The Peruvian hairless dog is breed of dog with its origins in Peruvian pre-Inca cultures. It is one of several breeds of hairless dog. They are typically lively, alert and friendly with other dogs but can be protective as well. This is an ancient breed. Althought it is often perceived to be an Inca dog because it is know to have been kept during the Inca Empire, they were also kept as pets in Pre-Inca cultures from the peruvian coastal zone. Ceramic hairless dogs from the Chimu, Moche and Vicus culture are well know.Depictions of this breed of dogs appear around 750 AD on Moche ceramic vessels and continue in later Andean ceramic traditions. It is a persistent myth that the body temperature of hairless dogs is higher than other dogs. They may feel warmer due to the lack of hair. According to peruvian floklore, letting the dog “hug” you believed to help with stomach pain and other disorders. It is very likely that some of these myths have helped the breed to survivve for long in Peru.

Lima is a capital with art, fashion, music, culture, and a never ending list of nighttime adventures. Recently our cuisine has launched a trend that is opening our eyesonce again to the importance of our ancestral legacy
through the use number of superior restaurants in Lima. Other aspects of our culture, like music and design, are also surging to the forefront and providing something more for tourists to experience.
A city with a storied bloodline, it was founded in 1535; a mixture of peoples and customs, proud of its varied architecture and remarkable culture.
URBAN POSTCARDLima is brimming with new experiences. Its neighborhoods are hotbeds of art movements that seek to renew vision and stimulate the imagination. The city emerges from the depths of her inhabitants through music that gives vent to its emotions, a blend of airy Andean pipes, heavy African drums, scintillating Spanish guitars, ethereal jazz bass lines, and driving rock beats.
Peru’s capital is so layered with contrasts, a stage in which scenes are constantly changing, a meld of competing trends, and the proverbial “city that caters to all tastes”, which leaves many people speechless.
The city center is famous for its Spanish Colonial architecture, remarkable wooden balconies covered in complex lattice works, its interesting and famous China Town, parks with huge fountains and laser light shows, and Catholic churches that are fusion of European and Andean motifs. The district of Barranco, next to the sea and heart of Lima’s night life, is

also home to charming beach houses from the 1950’s and the most romantic spot in town: El Puente de los Suspiros – The Bridge of sighs.
JEWELLERY: LIVING ARTPeru is a country of artisans, and jewelry has been taken to a new level by designers who have grounded themselves in tradition but are also daring enough to take the plunge and create something striking. Silver and gold are set between Peruvian stones, beads, and
“dormilonas” (earrings worn by marinera dancers), traditional “ekekos” alive in silver and wood, old ceramic plates dressed in silver and decorated angels from the Cusco School sit in silver frames with a decidedly Spanish Colonial appearance.

On December 6 1534, Diego de Almagro founded the city under the name of “Villa Trujillo”, in honour of his leader Francisco Pizarro’s birthplace, Trujillo in Extremadura, Spain. Tourism is a major industry in Trujillo, due to the city’s proximity to important sites where the Moche and Chimu civilizations developed. These civilizations had highly skilled artisans, and many of their artifacts were found during archaeological digs in the city. Nearby ruins include the Chimu adobe city of Chan Chan, the world’s largest city built from that material. It is sometimes called Ciudad de la Luna (City of the Moon) because the people worshipped the moon; or de las Largas Murallas (of the Long Walls). In size and complexity, it has been compared with Teotihuacan in Mexico, and the ancient cities of Egypt. Other nearby ruins are the Moche ruins of h uaca del Sol, h uaca de la Luna, and El Brujo.Trujillo aspires to be designated as a World Heritage Site, because of the proximity of both cultures and its historical colonial city centre, whose historic casonas (mansions) attract many visitors. The mansions and manors of Trujillo are distinguished for their solemn and austere
ornaments. The world-famous beach hdestination, is located just north of Trujillo.
The Gran Chimu Gymnasium opened in the early sixties, hosting a variety of sports. The Peruvian Volleyball Federation used as venue for the Women´s Junior World Championship in 1989 and also the 1994 Girls South American Championship. During the first months of 2011, several improvements were made in order to reach FIVB requirements for the Women's Junior World Championship. The renewed Gran Chimu was the venue for the Opening Ceremony, hosting a total of 24 matches.

and Argentina were sent overseas through the Port of Callao. For this reason, Callao soon became a luring spot for pirates and corsairs, making it a port of legends. Since it was believed that only the ships which sailed through the Atlantic and the Caribbean were in
the mercy of corsairs, particularly the port of Callao. Francis Drake, an Englishman, ransacked Valparaiso and continued all the way up to the Port of Callao to take over, in 1579, a large shipment of silver and then continue his course elsewhere. Spain took action in this matter, but the pirate had already warned his mates, therefore the attacks did not cease to arrive. In 1587 an attack was led by the English Thomas Cavendish, who wasn’t very fortunate in his
Englishman, Richard Hawkins, also dared an attack on the port, but was sentenced to death by the Spanish, although he later received a pardon. In 1615 it was the Dutch Jorg Spitberg, who attacked and retreated without success,
but left the port very damaged. In 1624, another corsair from holland, Jacobo Clerk, attempted an attack, but his strategies failed and he was killed by a gunshot. It appeared that the Port of Callao was gaining the

THE ISLANDS OF CALLAOThere are several islands facing the port of Callao which are
life. San Lorenzo is the biggest of these islands, this including
inhabitants of the area for conducting religious ceremonies and as a source of guano, which they used to fertilize their crops. El Fronton is another famous island. Its rocky formation, resembling a wall, was once used as a prison. Nowadays, this island is refuge to large colonies of sea lions and is visited during the tour of the islands.
The Miguel Grau Gymnasium is an exclusive facility for the
practice of volleyball. Opened in 2004, the local Municipality
smartly equipped it with modern sports devices for the 2011

Continental Championships took place during the last years.
