Dear Colleagues,

the spirit that has guided us from the very first session of our courses can be felt lookingat the picture that has become almost the symbol of our initiative. It depicts twocolleagues holding an eighteenth century consultation. The three patients areunnamed but their medical conditions represent the commonest diagnoses found inthat epoch: arthritis, chronic pain and skin diseases. The two doctors are the senior surgeon Jeremiah Pierce, examining the patient’s pulseand Doctor William Oliver, taking notes. Like them we are motivated by a consideration for our patients’ health and wellbeing, and our everyday professional activities are aimed at treating the pathologies theypresent us with in the best possible way. That’s what is bringing us together for these three days and we are sure that we willtake the maximum advantage of the opportunity we have to improve ourselves andeach other.

Three concurrent courses will be held, each of them involving one of the different areasof expertise required in the treatment of rheumatoid patients:

• Rheumatology, • Hand and Upper limb Surgery and Rehabilitation, • Lower limb Surgery and Rehabilitation.

One common session per day will illustrate topics of general interest such as diagnosticsand imaging.

The aim of the Course is to provide an exhaustive diagnostic case history of arthritisand to present the most innovative surgical and therapeutic solutions. The course hasa limited number of participants per section, coming from all over the world.

We wish you an enjoyable stay in Florence and a profitable and constructive course!
