Cemeteries of London – Coldplay

Begins with an long shot of the ceiling of a cathedral that pans downwards to reveal a person who is admiring the architecture. They slowly walk around for a few seconds before leaving through the main door. Outside there is a graveyard. They begin to stroll around, admiring some of the gravestones, leaning down to read one. As the guitar part starts, another person can be see walking into frame. They look up at the other person, who offer them a hand which they take and get up. They look at each other, before the camera cuts to them on a boat on a river/ top of a bus where they laugh and chat. Next scene, they get off (optional scene, possible cut instead), running excitedly into a field, which has a forest near it. They are running into the forest, where they reach a big tree, which they climb. At the top of the tree, they look out at the horizon as the sun is setting, both smiling.

Visual Inspirations:

21 Pilots – Holding On To You

I take inspiration from this video based on the way it’s shot. I hope to convert my video to black and white after shooting it, and this video uses the shooting style I would like to attempt; black and white but very clean, sharp and modern looking. The video also uses lots of shots with narrow depth of field, such as the shot seen below. The people in the background are out of focus, while the singer is sharply in focus. Converting my footage into black and white also means that my range of tones will be large, making my shots look very tonally rich. There are some very dark tones shown in some people’s costumes, whereas people’s faces mostly display lighter tones.

Think About It – American AuthorsAlex

This song is more instrumental. It is quite upbeat. My idea for this music video is to have it look like one long tracking shot broken up by clips of performance. The main character could be walking around a town or city, his “Jungle” as the song implies. As the song progresses he passes different people in the street and eventually ends up at his house. I think that this could be both Spectacle and Performance as the actor could sing along at different points. I would make this video quite abstract incorporating practical effects to liven up the video.

Visual Inspirations:

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony

I have taken this video as my visual inspiration as it has a very similar video style as I want to do. In the video the man continues walking down the street as many different people pass by him. Although the actual colourisation is a little dull I feel that the visuals are just what I am aiming for.

West Ryder, Silver Bullet - Kasabian

A person wearing a bandana and black clothing holding a baseball bat. They are walking facing the camera, and as the music starts, they pull the bandana off of their face. They begin to sing, still with the baseball bat hanging over their shoulder. As the song progresses, they get less threatening. They begin by singing, then begin to dance, then swinging the baseball bat as they dance, before some other people join them in dancing. Confetti fires as they go along , and the people joining them to dance are dressed brightly..

Visual Inspirations:

Slaves – Cheer up London

This video has been inspiration to the idea based on the props, costumes and the way it has been directed. It uses lots of bright costumes in props and features somebody singing and dancing while walking along a street. My idea also involves backing dancing and somebody walking along the street singing and dancing.

Target Audience

Age Range: 15-30Gender: Male and FemaleClass: E – C1Ethnicity: AllCulture: Western

Our media product may challenge the media convention of media’s representation of Youths being hooligans and rebels. Especially in the Kasabian song as it is stripping back the persona of youths being hooded criminals.

Theory

• Hebdige – Youth as either fun or trouble making – we are presenting youth as fun.

• It goes against Ann Gould’s stereotypes of Youth, which are

• Rebellious• Artificial Tribe• Sexual• Nihilistic• Violent• Self Destructive

Audience Segmentation• Based on Young and Rubicam’s cross-cultural consumer characterisation model, our ideas would appeal to

the group of the struggler; our ideas are very visually interesting, particularly the Kasabian and American Authors one, therefore they appeal to the type of audience that is struggling in life and seek escape.

• However, I feel the Coldplay idea would appeal more to the group of the explorer, as the idea has a very strong sense of adventure and exploration, which would appeal to an audience that is young at heart in seeks to discover something.

• I think our ideas work best with the socio-economic groups of E to C1, as there are a lot of youth themes, especially in the Kasabian Idea, which suggests violent youth, that would not be of interest to those in the groups of middle class or upper middle class
