Final Major Project

Techniques&

Camera Angles

There is a variety of techniques that can be used in photography such as Leading Lines, Depth Of Field, high speed photography, motion blur and etc… Some of the techniques which I am going to focus on are surrealist, tilt shift photography and dept of field. I have seen these used allot when looking at Alice In Wonderland photographs on the internet and I think they work well with my ideas.

I am also going to try some other techniques different to these to see if they go well with my photographs and themes. One of the other techniques which I am going to try and use in my photographs is leading lines, I think this technique would work really well with the setting being in the woods. I have saw photographs on the internet with leading lines when it comes to the ‘tea party’ with a long shot of the trees leading up to the props in the photograph.

Surrealist PhotographyThis is a style which resembles shrunken down characters and objects, this is a style which is used a lot in films especially fantasy. Not only is this shrinking down characters but it can be other things which aren’t realistic and are edited using imagination. This style is 'Creating images beyond our imagination‘

I think this style will look really good on my photographs because of the fantasy theme, this technique makes simple photographs into something more. This is one of my favourite techniques in photography. I’ve hardly found any Alice In Wonderland shoots which have used these techniques so I think it would be good to show I’m not just copying other photographers ideas but I’m making them my own.

A photographer which has done these types of edits in the past is Joel Robinson who Created a Self Made Fairy Tale Reality. He's taken and edited some amazing photographs. I am going to try and edit some of my photographs in this way. He’s a children's writer and he taken these photographs to ‘bring his books to life.’ Some of his photographs show his life in certain ways for example he uses a lot of books, paper and a type writer.

Dept Of FieldThis is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image. Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance at a time, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on each side of the focused distance, so that within the DOF, the unsharpness is imperceptible under normal viewing conditions.

I think Dept of Field looks really good with certain types of photographs, it can show the viewer what the photograph is specifically about instead of them having to think about it. I’ve found a variety of photographs to do my theme/genre with this technique and I think it works really well, especially with the props. When searching for some ideas I’ve found some of my favourite photographs have used this technique and I am going to use this in different ways and with different photo’s which I take. This technique is not only used in Alice In Wonderland photographs but it is also used in the Alice in Wonderland film which makes this technique work well.

Each one of these photographs have used the dept of field in different ways and they’re all to do with Alice In Wonderland. Each photograph look equally good and they’re all eye catching for the viewers. Especially the tea cups spinning.

Camera Angles are important for a lot of media products from film to photography. There is a variety of different camera angles and shows something different for example close-ups show emotion, long shots show people and the background, long shots show everything in the shot and etc…

I am going to use a variety of different camera angles in my photo-shoot including close-ups to show the emotions of the characters, I think this will work well because the two themes/genres I am mixing together are completely different and hold different emotions. Also Close-ups to show the props which I am using , this is where I am planning on adding the depth of field. When researching for some more ideas I’ve found a variety of different photographers using a close-up to show the pocket watch, cards, signs and etc… This camera angle is used in the film especially during the tea party scene to show the props on the table.

Another camera angle which I am planning on using in my photographs is a long shot, especially to show the tea party scene. I’m also going to use an extreme long shot to show this scene, so the viewers know what part of the film I’ve taken the specific photographs of. I think this is important for this one scene in the film because it’s the part of the film that everyone remembers.
