final issu bookTRANSCRIPT
STATEMENT
I am researching how to make informational bug toys that are engaging and educational because I want to help foster kids positive attitudes towards bugs, in order to help them understand that some bugs are beneficial to the environment and kids shouldn’t be afraid of them.
1
I am going to create a series of educational bug toys for kindergarten and elementary school kids. Kids will have to connect different body parts to have a final form of a bug.

INSPIRATION / RESEARCH
Toy made out of papers / connected by legos / different dimensions - at JFK Airport
Our class field trip to Museum of Moving Images inspired my project. The Jim Henson’s exihbition covered his sketch works, puppetry, television commercials, props, and storyboards. From this exhibition, I wanted to create something for children, something that they can nteract with and have fun with.

PROCESS
FIRST FIVE PROTOTYPES-For my first prototype, I decided to make 5 different insects with 5 different materials.Origami insect wasn’t interesting enough to catch people’s attention, as well was the ladybug and the spider.
SPIDER - CLOTH & COTTON
DRAGONFLY - FELT (FINGERDOLL) BUTTERFLY - ORIGAMI
CENTIPEDE - HANDKNIT LADYBUG - CLAY
6
PROCESS
SECOND PROTOTYPE-From the critique, handknitted centipede and dragonfly made out of felt got chosen. From this point, I decided to create educational toys for children- toys that are able to disconnect, so the kids can put them together.
7
PROCESS
THIRD PROTOTYPE-From my second prototype, I decided to make insects with the felt because they are easier to handle and disconnect / connect.
8
PROCESS
FOURTH PROTOTYPE - CHILDREN BOOK-For my fourth prototype, I tried to make characters for my book. I drew them on illustrator, but realized the drawings look very different from the original toy - the insects looked TOO real. Therefore, I had to trash everything and start over.

PROCESS
FIFTH PROTOTYPE - CHILDREN BOOK-Rough draft of children books From this rough draft, I learned that quotes need to be simple and straightforward as well as the illustrations.
11
PROCESS
FINAL PROTOTYPE-For my final prototype, I decided to make a story book where children can learn about what good insects do to the environment. I made the book interactive, so children have to play with the toy while reading it. They basically have to connect different body parts to complete the insect!
