My final compositions were influenced from Eugenia Loli, this can be seen through the busyness of the photographs and the photo shopping involved. Using images of explosions and galaxies I have ‘quoted’ her work in my pieces. A key feature I focused on, was trying to make the photo complex and have meaning, much like Loli. However, with complexity comes diversity, and this is why I have to chosen to leave the meaning of each photo to personal interpretation. I have placed my portraits in specific areas that follow the rule of thirds making them more aesthetically pleasing.

FINAL IMAGES – OBJECTS

• I chose my noir piece as I felt it demonstrated an excellent use of colour, with only a small part of it contrasting against the rest it drew attention to itself. I think it was because the red complimented the noir styling of the overall composition as to why it worked. I felt as though the background blended well with the foreground and with the casino setting created a story for viewers. This piece follows what we now call ‘neon noir’, which is an interesting style of photography and film making. This involves only highlighting certain colours on certain images.

• The second image relates heavily to both of the artists I studied. Whilst studying Andre Kertez, I came across a photo of objects on a window sill. The image was very inspirational for me as it captured an atmosphere that was warm, yet still told a story through the objects chosen. As you can see the influence is quite obvious as I have taken direct inspiration from Kertez. As for my second artist, Michael Wolf, he focus’ on taking shots of skyscrapers and other urban landscapes. The link between his work and mine is quite clear as I have chosen to use a bright city in the background of the window. The depth of filed merges well with the foreground, creating a smooth image that looks as though it could have truly been taken as an original.
