NYNYSound affects and enjambment is something that really changes the way you see apoem. NYNY shows a lot of sounds that you commonly hear while in the big city.

Reading this story I saw myself back in New York, with the sound of honking horns andyelling. The poem made me miss being in a large city.

Some of the words that stood out the most to me were: thundering, swaying,

weaving, babbling, and unblinking. These words almost sound like what they are

saying. And while reading it the first time I really noticed how I looked at the

enjambment and how it really stood out to me. You may not at first notice yourself

slowly reading one word on one line and it finished on the next but your mind really

wonders, whats coming next? The author picked a great use of words and really

kept you tuned in to all it said.

    Dr. Strangelove

The filmDr. Strangelovehad a lot of sexual innuendos. And while there were alot of sexual themes only one person really stood out to me. While the film began with

General 'Buck' Turgidson in a hotel room with his secretary I would say that he

couldnt resist this woman. Later in the film you meetGeneral Jack Ripper and you

see that he seems to be a little crazy. General Ripper is the one who is clearly out of

place with the way he views woman.

General Ripper is scared of woman because he believes sleeping with them

will steal his essence. Ripper is scared that if he sleeps with a woman and looseshis fluids he will be helpless and that he will no longer be able to defend himself.

Ripper also admits that he hasnt been with a woman in years. He thinks that the

communists have put stuff into the water and he refuses to drink any kind of wateror alcohol that has been processed.

General Ripper ends up killing himself because of his paranoia. The way he

was controlling others and the way he set up the code that he was the only one toknow it showsNietzsches will to power. Ripper thought what he was doing was okaybut I reality Ripper was just going insane.

Livingin SinLivingin Sinwas one of my favorite poems. I did a lot of research on Adrienne

Rich and when you see the life she has lived you understand why she wrote a poem like

this.Livingin Sindeals with a young girl who is falling into a lustful relationship withthis man. The man comes and goes as he pleases but she is stuck in her small studio stuck

to think about the choices she has made in her life.

The metaphor that means the most is when the milkman is mentioned. It showsthe coming and going of the man that she seems to be in love with. He comes to get what

he wants and when he is done with her he just leaves. The Rising action takes place when the man leaves for cigarettes. She is left all

alone in the messy studio to think of all she has done. He conflict is internal bit they

reader gets to see it because of the POV. The way to poem ends shows that the man willcontinually leave her and she will allow him to do so.

    Daddy

Daddy written by Sylvia Plath in 1962 was released just a few days before her

own suicide. Being raised in the 30s, 40s, and 50s Plath realized the view society hadon females as being a weaker sex. Plath seemed to feel like she had always lived in a

male dominated world and thats why most of her works were written to show the powerof a woman. It is said that she used the holocaust to represent her inner turmoil.

When the poem says, Chuffing me off like a Jew she could be referring to theconformity of woman living just to merely get married and have children. She is using

the Nazi and Jew as a metaphor as the relationship between her father and herself. Havinga bad relationship with him thats the only way she can explain the way she feels when

she thinks about him. And the last metaphor is when she says, And drank my blood for ayear, Seven years, if you want to know. This shows the influence of a relationship that

was bad. Showing that she was drained from this relationship he took all of her energyfrom her like a vampire stealing someone blood from them.

Plaths poem is very strong with words and it really affected the way she lived.Scholars say that by reading this poem they could see signs of Plath showing a soon

coming suicide. I think Plath knew how male domination affected her own life and shewanted to pour her heart in to her last works showing where she was truly passionate.

    Lanyard

Reading Lanyardgave me a good happy feeling. It really took me back tomemories of small insignificant that I have given to my mother over the years. I think the

author gives you his insight and perspective to really put you in the poem. I felt like thekid making a lanyard for my own mother. Collins wrote about his feelings and what he

has experienced.Irony comes in when you see the long list of things that a mother does for a child

and as children we think that when we give them something so insignificant that its alleven. You can never replace a mothers love for her children and I think thats why

Collins wrote this. When we are young we have no cares because of all our parents aredoing for us and it just shows how much we truly owe our parents.

I think this poem is something that almost every child has done when they have agood relationship with their parents. Collins also may have tried to make a connection

between the relationships between out heavenly Father. How God gave so much and inreturn we dont give near as much as He did. It shows true love that will never end.
