Final Evaluation At the start of the year we were told what we would have completed by the end of the year. We were told that the majority of our work would be computer based however; we would be making a Music Video that we would have to shoot and edit ourselves. The first Assignment ‘IG1’ was all about research; we had to look at three different artists with different styles of Music Videos (Narrative, Concept and Performance Based) once we had found the music videos we had to analyse them going into as much detail as possible and thinking outside of the box at the point of the Music Video. I found this task quite hard because it was very time consuming and I don’t have a good attention span so focusing on these analysis was quite difficult for me. Once we had completed the analysis of the three music videos we were then able to decide what style music video we would like to do for our music video. I chose narrative as I wanted my music video to follow a story. Throughout the rest of the assignment we had to think of a song for our Music Video and write a Proposal and Treatment for our music video. This was quite enjoyable as I got to think of a Music Video and write down all of my ideas for it. After completing a few more things on the Assignment including: Equipment costs, Job Roles and Budget we were split into groups for who was going to be in our group for the music video and then finally I got to write the script for my Music Video. Final Evaluation

At the start of the year we were told what we would have completed by the end of the year.

I found writing the script quite difficult as you it required a great deal of time and we had to try and make the reader be able to visualise the Music Video so I had to include different camera angles and change text colour and go into detail on the setting.

We then went onto our next Assignment ‘IG2’ this Assignment was all about pre-production. All of the work was focused on preparing for the Music Video. Before we did anything we first had to decide which Script we were going to use for the Music Video. There were 5 people in my group so choosing a script was quite difficult however in the end Ken’s script was chosen for the Music Video. After choosing the script we all had to go off and change the script to our style. After we had all finished our scripts we had another group meeting

to choose the final script for the Music Video where Reuben’s script was picked for the one to follow whilst shooting the video. We then went on to actually planning the video, we all created storyboards for the music video, these were needed as we drew our ideas on them which then helped the other members of the group visualise a person’s Idea for the scene. The storyboards also helped us follow the script without having to look through the actual script as all the information was on them i.e. camera shots and brief description of the scene. This made it easier to film the Music Video. I created a call sheet for our group which included emergency contacts so if any accidents were to occur when filming we would be able to get hold of an injured person’s family. As well as a call sheet we also created a Risk Assessment as well as a Location Recce. The risk assessment was important because it made us aware of what accidents could happen resulting in us being cautious which lowers the chances of accidents. We then arranged a time we were all free to shoot the music video. I really enjoyed shooting the music video because you got to see the video coming to life.

I enjoyed the assignment IG3 the most as I really enjoy editing and the majority of IG3 was editing our Music Video. We had to create a Basic Edit for our Music Video which didn’t include an advanced editing. The reason for creating the basic edit was just so we had all of the clips we needed and it was all in order, doing this helped me with my final edit because I didn’t need to search through all of the footage trying to find a certain clip; I could just focus on the effects. Once I had completed the basic edit I wrote down my plans for the final edit which again helped me with my Final Edit because there was no way I was going to forget to add something into my final edit as all of my ideas were written down. Finally it was time to complete the final edit for my music video. I really enjoyed making the final edit one of the main reasons why is because I managed to make it exactly as id pictured it as I said before I really enjoy editing so this particular part of the assignment was enjoyable for me so I didn’t look at it as a task.

At certain parts of my music video there were minor problems that I couldn’t fix. At the start of my Video where Jakes foot is tapping I use the split screen effect to make 4 different shots of the feet tap side by side.

This was harder than I thought it would be. The reason for this is because it was hard to get the tapping of the feet synchronised as I had to slow down one of the clips because it wasn’t long enough. I managed to match the tapping to the beat to a point where I don’t think it was noticeable however, because it was my video I wanted it to be perfect and felt myself getting frustrated that I couldn’t get them to match.

Although there were few problems in the music video the majority of it was at the standard I wanted it to be at. At one point in my Music Video I wanted to use the selective colouring effect.

This was one of the effects I did using After Effects using the colour correction effect. The effect itself seemed easier that I thought it would be although it became harder when I had to use the pen tool to create a mask around the

sticker. The reason I had to create a mask around the sticker was because there was yellow in the jacket that Reuben was wearing, because of the yellow

in his jacket it wasn’t just the sticker that was staying in colour it was part of Reuben’s jacket too. Creating the mask around the sticker made only the

sticker stay in colour. Once I had created the Mask around the sticker I had to use Rotoscope Animating so that the sticker would stay in colour for the whole

section of the video.

At the very end of the video I wanted to use video in video and add several clips onto one particular video in the style of a Split screen montage with the

finished result showing the whole Music Video in a short period of time.

This was relatively easy to do however; I thought when I had finished adding the additional clips it looked great, each clip appears at a different time in sync

with the song beat. I made each of the clips transparent and used the After Effects ‘Blur Effect’ to blur the edges of each individual using the clip to make

them blend in with the original video.

Overall, I enjoyed all three of the assignments although at certain points I found them to be quite time consuming and require a lot of focus but other

than that there was always a part of the assignment I enjoyed. In IG1 I enjoyed making my Music Video Proposal and Treatment, In IG2 I enjoyed creating the

Storyboards and filming the Music Video and in IG3 I enjoyed creating the Music Video. Assignment IG3 was the one that I was most interested in and

enjoyed the most but I do understand that the other assignments were required in order to film the music video for IG3.
