Delph Honors English IV I November, 2010 The Carolina Pregnancy Center Many women who have unwanted pregnancies feel they have no where to turn to and therefore make decisions they will regret in the future. The Carolina Pregnancy Center educates men and women o f all ages on pregnancy, abortion ris ks and s ide effects, and life ±giving alternatives. The Carolina Pregnancy Center is an option for couples because it can help women and men in their decisions for abstinence education, abortion alternatives, and parent ing skills. It all began in 1984 when a group of Christians began meeting to explore ways of providing practical help to women in the community who were facing the cr isis of an unplanned pregnancy. Together they formed the Carolina Pregnancy Center, a non profit agency that is committed to providing long-term, comprehensive support for women throughout their pregnancy and after their bab y¶s birth. The Carolina Pregnancy Center o pened its doors in the spring of 1985 and has helped men in wo men in their decisions for the future of their baby. The Carolina Pregnancy Center feels that it is important to teach abstinence education. One way that the center teaches this is education through the schoo ls. The center believes that abstinence education through the schools is the perfect way to help people realize the seriousness of sexually transmitted diseases and the major risks of being sexually act ive. A volunteer from the center travels to schools throughout t he community and teaches grades six through twelve t he risks of STD¶s and the benefits of abstinence (Honeycutt).
