Photoshop Digipak – Jamie Thorn and The mystery Pacific

I decided to use yellow for the front cover font because of my research into a variety of similar fronts and colours. Although it does not fit the stereotype digipak in using earthy colours it links in well with the theme of royalty and regency subtly which relates to the track used in our music video.

I decided to use the convention of having artwork on the digipak by playing on the name of ‘Jamie thorn and the mystery pacific’ by having a sea of thorns which I think works well and has been linked in with the inside pages through a swirl that branches out across the panels – similar to a tree. This is in keeping of the nature conventions of the folk/rock genre.

Due to the nautical theme and the use of a pirate ship I thought it would be a good idea to unify the back cover with the front by placing the lyrics of the song onto the flag of the crows nest. It is also linked via the title which has been placed on the back but slightly smaller.

The idea of having photo reels I think has worked quite well as it allows the audience to connect better with the band and give them more of an insight into the artists life. It also brings together the whole digipak and how its was made and the ideas behind it. This is a convention that has been seen on other digipak’s such as ‘Florence and the Machine’ who used it more like a collage, however we have decided to play about with the idea a bit.

I decided to make the main body of text flow with the branch rather than put it in a standard block in order to unify it with the artwork and images. This works better because it looks more professional and may suggest that they don’t tick to the norms. They are original.
