1 Exporting MOV files from Final Cut Pro

Each MOV file contains a MooV atom. The MooV atom contains three pieces of information: the file’s size; name; and data that contains an index for video and audio frames. This MooV atom can be located anywhere with in the MOV file. However, in order for you to successfully import MOV files into NEXIO servers, the MooV atom must be located at the beginning, or in the header, of the file. NEXIO servers use the MooV index to interpret the data received in the stream and store it properly in the RAID set. This chapter contains instructions on how to place the Moov atom at the beginning of a MOV file that you want to export.

This chapter also contains information on supported frame rates and compatible compression types (see Table 1-1 on page 2).

Creating Exportable Files

To create MOV files for export to NEXIO from Final Cut Pro:

1. Select your edit in the timeline.

2. Select File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion…The Save window displays.

3. In the Save As drop-down menu, type or select the name and location of the file, and select the location where the file will be stored from the drop-down menu.

4. In the Format field, select QuickTime Movie.

5. Click Options...The Movie Settings window displays.

6. To export video, leave the Video option checked and press the Settings… button in the Video section.The Standard Video Compression Settings window displays.

7. In the Compression Type drop-down menu, select DV/DVCPRO - NTSC or DV/DVCPRO - PAL. See Table 1-1 on page 2.

8. In the Motion area in the Frame Rate drop-down menu, select 29.97. See Table 1-1 on page 2.

9. In the Compressor area, set Quality from Medium to Best.

Setting the quality slider to Best will make the encode take longer.

10. Click OK.The Movie Settings window displays again.

11. Select the following settings for the Video area:

Compression: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC

Quality: Medium to Best

Frame rate: 29.97

Scan Mode: Interlaced

Aspect Ratio: 4:3

Dimensions: 720x480 (640x480) (Compressor Native)

12. In the Sound section of the Movie Settings dialog box, leave the Sound option checked, and press the Settings... button. The Sound Settings window displays.

13. Verify the following settings in the Sound area:

Format: Linear PCM

Channels: Stereo (L R)

Rate: 48.000 (48 KHz)

Sample Size: 16

Little Endian: Checked

14. Click OK.The Movie Settings window displays once more.

15. Verify that Prepare for Internet Streaming is checked.This creates a file that can be imported.

16. In the Prepare for Internet Streaming, select Fast Start.

17. Click OK.
