THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS!
I receive at the very least a call a week regarding a diverse range of BloomNet topics including the services we offer (or don’t), our cost structure, and in particular, incoming orders that are either too low in terms of their dollar amount, not plentiful enough or too plentiful with too many delivery requirements.
Which leads me to the word value. When you think about it, the value of a wire service should be judged on more than just orders, but also on the overall scope of resources the wire service brings to the retailer in supporting their needs, and ultimately, in satisfying their customers and growing their business.
I have to admit that in retrospect, I do long for those good old days when business was bountiful and an entire business’ value was judged only on one key metric: Service. In fact, many years ago at another company, we built an entire brand just on Service...essentially by building relationships first and doing business second. And from that standpoint, not much has changed. It is the relationships with our florists that drive the vast array of services and products BloomNet offers and will continue to develop into the future.
So what have we done lately?First, some fun! This year we began offering industry-exclusive order sending contests to reward BloomNet Florists for sending their outbound orders through BloomLink. The contests are simple, send one order and you’re in the running for a variety of exciting prizes and even a fabulous vacation. For our first contest earlier this year, we gave away a trip to Hawaii and now for our second contest we’re giving away a trip to Holland. Several other valuable prizes are also part of each of these contests. In almost all cases, the winners have been family owned businesses with a small amount of outbound orders. In fact, we recently gave away a $50 gas gift card to a shop in rural America; the shop sent the only order they had to send BloomNet and they won. Simple!
Secondly, we just launched a new version of our “first in the industry” Digital Directory. Now, you have the ability to choose how you want to view your florist directory – “Traditional” that looks just like the paper directory or “Contemporary,” which is very similar to a search engine environment (think Google). We continue to enhance our online directory, so you have the opportunity to optimally select the right florist for your all-important local outbound orders.
Thirdly, a new way to purchase your fresh flowers through BloomNet has just been launched: Worldflowers.com. Working with the very best regional distributors and farms, we are bringing you a whole new approach to conveniently purchasing flowers online...offering the very best quality, cold chain delivery and personalized service, all at a great value. With Worldflowers.com, ordering your flowers just got a lot easier and you can use the BloomNet Clearing House to pay for your orders.
Fourth, we are taking education on the road with the Floriology Fresh Forum. This event has always been extremely well attended at the Floriology Institute located at our Napco Facility in Jacksonville, FL. We often receive requests to have the event in a regional meeting format across the country, so in 2014, we will be offering it at several different locations. The event will cover a variety of areas including industry trends, business best practices, technology training and even a design contest. Look for more information coming soon to your area.
