Monsters (2010)The film was written and Directed by Gareth Edwards, who

before Monsters had only directed two TV documentaries

Perfect Disasters and Heroes and Villains. However, since

he has directed a major hollywood film, Godzilla. It has also

been announced that he is directed a unnamed star wars

project (2016) and Godzilla 2 (2018).

The stars of the film are Scoot Mcnairy and Whitney Able.

Scoot Mcnairy made his turning point

in film in 2007 in ‘In search of a

Midnight Kiss’, which Gareth

Edwards spotted him, therefore he

was cast for Monsters. Since 2010,

he has been in Argo and 12 years a

slave.

Whitney Able starred in an episode of CSI NY, however since Monsters she has been in the

Kane Files, Criminal Minds, and A Walk among the Tombstones with Liam Neeson

Special EffectsEdwards created his

shots. He averaged this at

two shots a day, however

after two months he has

still not created the right

looking Monster.

• SWSX Film Festival : within hours of being showed, it was

sold to Magnolia Pictures in America belonging to Wagner /

Cuban company’s for magnet releasing for North America

and Mexico.

• It premiered at the South by Southwest film festival 13th

March 2010.

• UK premier:- 64th Edinburgh International film festival 18th

June, 2010.

• Theatrical release = Russia 30th September, distributed by

Valga film.

Marketing

• Vertigo teamed up with digital agency, ‘Thinkjam’ to

conceive a location based campaign.

• There was a teaser press release on foursquare a

long with clips.

The production budget was under – £500,000

The film had no presold elements but it has a sequel that is

coming out in cinemas soon.

The film was funded by vertigo films themselves .

Vertigo distributed this film in the UK and in US it was done by,

magnet releasing.

Not much went into traditional media advertising, they had

photos in magazines and posters at bus stops but not much else.

Was also promoted at film festivals such as SXSW, which seemed

to be an effective method.

However it used the internet well, on YouTube it had featurettes,

teaser trailers, then some other trailers as well. They also used

social media to help advertise as well, eg: foursquare.

The film was only released in one format- 35mm (anamorphic) in

a D- cinema.

At home you can watch it on both Blu Ray and DVD, also can

get it from iTunes store and Netflix. Therefore also available on

games consoles as well.

DistributionThe film was a fairly small project and therefore was not marketed in

any huge way. Warp films were expecting DVD sales to be bigger

than the opening weekend.

Warp has it’s own website on which you can watch Tyrannosaur,

therefore it shows that it is still being marketed four years after it’s

initial release.

• The film opened to 4,404 theatres between the dates

of July 20th and July 22nd

• The film was intended for the cinema and expected

to do well at box office, this is easy to tell by looking

at their ridiculous budget.

Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle's pinpoint accuracy saves countless

lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home

to his wife and kids after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds

that it is the war he can't leave behind.

Bradley Cooper was the main actor, already well known for

starring in many films such as:

The traditional advertising used was TV advertising, magazine

and twitter page, many trailers on YouTube, Warner Bros

The film was released in a 35 mm (Kodak Vision 2383) D-Cinema

As it is such a new film you are not able to purchase it in any

other way, other than buying a ticket to the cinema. However

you may be able to pre order the DVD.

I believe that it is however readily available to be illegally

downloaded via a tormenting website called pirate bay.

So far the film has been released in 32 two countries, and is

being released through out February in many others.

Total world wide box office hasn’t been recorded yet either

In its opening weekend in the US its box office takings were

£70,000,000, it opened on 3,555 screens.

Just in its opening weekend it made all of its money back.

It hasn’t been released into other stages of the value chain as of
