What is the job of a Film Distributor? A Film Distributor is a company or individual

responsible for the marketing of a film. The Distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing.

20th Century Fox 20th Century Fox is an American based film studio and is

one of the six major American film studios. The Company is the second largest Distribution company behind Warner Bros. releasing films like Star Wars episodes I to III, Transporter, Taken, Ice Age and many, many more. This company is of course a multinational corporation, the genre they specialise in is Action films with a number of special effects and CGI. For example three out of four films mentioned are Action films, especially Star Wars using a lot of special effects.

With 20th Century Fox having distributed Horror films in the past, they can distribute my film. But 20th Century Fox handle with films with big budgets, much greater than what mine would be if it were a professional feature. Also this company is based in America, so it wouldn’t make sense to distribute with an American company with the film being produced 100% in the UK.

Film 4 Film4 (or Film Four) is a British company launched in 1998,

which is owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. This company is an independent company producing a number of English/British films only screening within the UK on the Film4 channel (But can be bought on DVD). The films are free to view in standard definition. Films Produced include - East is East, Slumdog Millionaire, This is England, Four Wedding and a Funeral. In these films you're not expecting to see a huge amount of CGI, they're made with great TV drama like aspects with good narrative behind them.

Film4 Productions can easily distribute my film because of location and budget wise aspects, the small size of my production it will fit well with the previous films released by the company. Film4 have produced low budget Thriller/horror films in the past so my film would be another to the list. Also this company is British, with my film set in Britain too it fits criteria.

DreamWorks Animation DreamWorks Animation is an American animation studio

based in Glendale, California, that creates animated feature films and also television programs. Films produced include Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and Antz. This company is definitely a Multinational corporation having their films being seen by audiences all around the world, and they're dealing with very high budgets for example Antz in 1998 had a budget of $105,000,000. The genre they specialise in is animate family films that any one can enjoy. They have never produced a film which has had a rating of 15 or 18.

DreamWorks would not be a suitable company to distribute my film with because I have created a film which is in the wrong genre of which they specialise in, my film is not animated.
