Film distribution is the process the film goes through for us the audience to be able to watch

This process is completed by the film distributors.

Also the process of how the movie reaches our home television screens and available for us to buy from the cinema.

Process of film distribution 1. A movie has to be produced, and then sent of

to the studio2. The studio has to make a licensing agreement

with a film distributor. 3. They will try and sell the film to prospective

buyers (cinema’s)- this also decides numbers of copies of the movie made – Prints

4. The movie will be advertised weeks prior to premiere

5. The movie will only be in cinemas for a specific amount of weeks (This is called ‘engagement’)

6. Prints are sent back to the distributor and according to the contract payments are made.

7. The movie is then released on DVD and can be downloaded. This can time period can be about 1 or 2 months.
