A box office is a place at the cinema where tickets are sold or reserved to the public for admission to an event. In addition, usually box office is a term that is frequently used to describe the amount of profit earned by a business production such as a film. An example of a high grossing film would be Avatar.

Why I rejected this

The reason why I rejected to have a box office film is because since this is a school project film I had to be realistic. This is not necessarily due to our equipment or how we made our opening sequence however I just feel that if our film were to be released it would not have a sophisticated essence to it as professional-made would have, the narrative would be incompetent to earn a successful amount of money. Another reason why I did not choose this is because, basing on our opening sequence it would fit more in a independent film category due to our low budget.

Independent Film

Definition of Independent FilmAn Independent film is a film production resulting in a feature film which is mostly if not completely out of the major film studio system. As well as independent films being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies, they can also be produced and distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios.

Typically, the marketing films would be limited release, however they can also have wide release. Independent films would usually be screened at local, national, or international film festivals before retail release.

Why I chose this

The reason I chose this is because independent films usually has a style and content that is the film makers’ personal artistic vision. This is how you would tend to distinguish an independent film. Another reason why I chose this is because usually films that are independent would be made in a lower film budgets than major studio film, this suits our opening sequence as you can tell it is not a big box office

Miramax is a American company and has headquarters in New York, Burbank, California and Santa Monica. This is a company that I have chosen, the reason I chose this company is because it is a known company that distributes independent and foreign films. Miramax was also a leading independent film motion picture distribution and production company.

Miramax does not specifically concentrate on a genre, they feature drama, action, comedy, family, documentary, foreign, thriller, and horror. One of greatest movies that Miramax has distributed is Pulp fiction which is a crime, comedy, thriller. Although we are not doing comedy for our opening sequence we are however doing a psychological thriller. In term of success I would say that Miramax is a good company to go for.

Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman could have the role of a detective. Typically you would see Morgan Freeman as the protagonist due to his general characteristics Freeman plays i.e. Responsible, respectful, retentive, etc. Morgan Freeman is unusually the protector in films and has a strong need for security and places safety first hence why I choose him to be our detective. In SE7EN Morgan Freeman was also a detective, there Freeman was an example of a good detective due to his invulnerability.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The reason I chose Leonardo DiCaprio is due to him having an active and creative mind, typically his characters that he plays tends to mull over his experiences and feelings. For our film DiCaprio could either be a detective or a victim with a vulnerability side to him i.e. His family could be his weakness and the antagonist could exploit it. Another reason why I would choose Leonardo DiCaprio is because he has the ability to perceive understand and communicate hence a good character to unravel mysteries.

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman is an Australian-American actress and film producer. She has starred in many Australian films, she earned her recognition through “Dead Calm “ which is a psychological thriller. Nicole Kidman has starred in various thriller films such as Before I Go to Sleep, The Others, Stoker, Eyes Wide Shut, etc. Nicole Kidman has earned herself the Golden Globe Awards, BADTA, Academy Award. The reason I have chosen her for our film because she has the characteristics to play a victim.
