This means that every congregation is both a center for faith-nourishment and a catalyst for gospel-inspired ministry and witness. Congregations thrive when they embrace their two-fold purpose while living collaboratively with other communities of faith, their local neighbors, and the larger Body of Christ. Mission Moment Transitions are a part of life, filled with both challenge and opportunity. For communities of faith, transitions are fertile ground for God’s transformational work. Congregational transitions are incredibly significant in the life of the whole church. They offer a rare opportunity for renewal and a time to reflect on the ministry and future of your congregation in unique ways. Congregations in transition are in a partnership with the Office of the Bishop, supporting one another and holding one another accountable to be who God is creating each to be: the Body of Christ. In the midst of a transition, the Office of the Bishop and the congregation work closely toward the goal of finding the right leader for the next phase of the congregation’s life. Since Bishop Gonia began in 2012, 98 congregations (nearly 2/3s!) have participated in the transition process. So that congregations, our local expression of the church, may be strengthened in our collective call to proclaim and embody God’s unconditional love for the sake of the world, congregation and ministry leaders gather as conferences for what have been called Missional Gatherings. Ministry Focus: Congregational Life

Thoughts from Bishop Jim: As one of the three primary expressions of our church, congregations are local communities of faith gathered around Word and Sacrament for the life of the whole world.

Through missional gatherings leaders have learned about engaging their neighborhoods, received tools for working together as leaders within the congregation, and strengthened relationships as conferences. This fall we will gather once again under a new name: Better Together Summit!

Hymn: ELW #548: Rise, O Church, Like Christ Arisen

Prayer Petition: Living God, you have called us be the conduits for grace and healing in this community. Strengthen the witness of this congregation and help us to better see the needs of our community. Give wisdom to those called to lead your church and be with those discerning a call to congregational leadership.

Offering Connections (to include in the offering portion of worship)

July 1: Your mission support helps us connect in ministry by supporting 363 visits to congregations by Office of the Bishop staff in 2017! July 8: Faith formation is a significant part of congregational life. Each month, faith formation leaders gather at the Office of the Bishop and via Zoom for connection, support, and learning. July 15: The Congregational Ministries Board and Synod Council work to provide support and guidance

for leaders through our synod compensation guidelines and constitution support. July 22: Recognizing the changing context of our Church, your gifts facilitated a gathering of leaders who serve part-time for conversation regarding gifts, challenges, and opportunities of this reality. July 29: Your gifts help Congregations, candidacy committees, and seminaries partner together to equip new pastors and deacons to serve in all expressions of our church.
