EU PNR AgreementThe European Union has reportedly agreed on a system that will share Pas-senger Name Record details collected from flights entering or leaving the EU. The move follows security con-cerns raised following the Paris terror attacks. The PNR system was first proposed in 2007 but was hampered by privacy concerns.

Earlybirds CloseEmirates’ Earlybird fares to UK/ Europe, Africa, South Asian Subcon-tinent and the Middle East are only valid for sales until the end of today, and all ticketing must be complete, reminds the carrier.

TAM’s A350 XWB OrderTAM Airlines’ first A350 XWB has taken off from Toulouse International Airport in France. The aircraft now progresses to the final production phase before delivery this month. It will operate in Jan between Sao Paulo and Manaus, then on flights from Sao Paulo to Miami, to Madrid and to Orlando.

Philippine Airlines has launched its four times weekly Manila-Auck-land, via Cairns, service. The 02 Dec inaugural flight was close to 75% full, and the carrier expects the momentum to continue, espe-cially with the Kiwi VFR and leisure markets.Speaking at a media briefing in Auckland last Fri, PR president Jaime Bautista says it was ‘about time’ it expanded its presence to this part of the world, and the move has come after the carrier renewed its mission and vision earlier this year. He says the route will provide convenient access for the more than 44,000 Filipinos residing in New Zealand to visit home, as well as Kiwi leisure travellers wish-ing to visit Cairns or the Philippines, or both. There’s also many onward connections from the Philippines for travellers, including the likes of Japan and Vietnam.

. . . Philippines FocusedThe main focus was on the Philip-pines itself and the many experiences and attractions it holds. Records show passenger travel from New Zealand to

the Philippines grew by 11.6% over the last five years; and this year as of Sep, over 14,000 Kiwis have visited the destination. It offers visitors nature and adventure in Palawan, sun and beach in Boracay, diving in Cebu, and shopping and entertainment in Ma-nila, says the country’s NTO. The MNL-CNS-AKL service will uti-lise the 156-seater Airbus 320, fly-ing Mon, Wed, Thu and Sun—and Bautista says it is looking to refigure the aircraft to ‘make sure we level up with what others have’.

. . . NZ Codeshare? Bautista reiterated the fact that PR is ‘really committed to serve this market’, and hinted at a possible codeshare agreement with Air New Zealand, in what he says would be a ‘win-win’ move for both carriers.

. . . Intro FaresPR is offering introductory return fares of USD705 economy and USD2044 business on the Auckland-Manila route; whilst return fares ex Auckland to Cairns start from USD378 economy and USD1658 business.

PR To Attract VFR, Leisure Markets

Hover Boards Don’t FlyIt’s been decades since Marty McFly took to his hover board—but now the concept is a reality, EK is reminding its passengers they just won’t fly. The smart balance wheels (aka hover boards) contain lithium batteries and are prohibited from carriage with or without the batteries, advises EK.The carrier is urging agents to point out the list of prohibited items. Addi-tionally, to ensure the safety of passen-gers and crew, spare lithium batteries used for devices such as cameras, mo-biles phones and laptops are prohib-ited in checked-in baggage, but may be carried in carry-on baggage subject to the restrictions detailed in the bag-gage information section.

South America is becoming a repeat destination and travel-lers are looking for something new there, says Adventure World, which has launched trips to Uru-guay and Suriname in its just-released 2016/17 South America programme.Sustained demand has led to the launch of Uruguay, says Adventure World, which is offering a range of options including a wine-focused ex-perience travelling with a sommelier to top wineries, a Montevideo discov-ery and a classic Uruguay route tak-ing in the country’s essential sights. Also new is a journey to the largely unchartered region of Suriname with renowned author and adventurer Richard Bangs.“We’ve seen year on year growth [for South America], particularly in perennial favourites Peru and Brazil,” says Adventure World New Zealand general manager Dave Nicholson. “However, it’s no longer seen as an once-in-a-lifetime holiday destina-tion, travellers are returning multiple times and seeking out new and more ‘off the beaten track’ experiences on each visit. With our new South Amer-ica programme, we’ve aimed to cater to everyone from first time to well-versed South American travellers.”Adventure World’s South Ameri-ca programme features a range of multi-country and in-depth itinerar-ies as well as mix and match product. To celebrate its launch, Adventure World is offering two deals for trips booked by 11 Dec—every two travel-lers who book Handpicked Peru will receive a free upgrade to five-star hotels in Lima, Arequipa and Cuzco

valued at $320pp (valid for travel 03 Jan-03 Dec 2016); and clients who book Handpicked Argentina will receive a free Estancia tour valued at $195pp (valid for travel 03 Jan-31 May 2016).

On the weekend, Cath Healey was the well deserved winner of the 2015 Broker of the Year Award. Cath came to us in August 2014, now she’s our top selling broker. It’s a tremendous achievement in a very small amount of time and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

Debbie Bradford won the Brokers Choice Award as voted by the brokers themselves. This was the cherry on the top of a very successful year given her TAANZ NTIA Best Broker Award earlier in the year.

New for this year was the Travelport ‘Good Sorts’ award, which went to Win Macmillan for her many years of service as chairperson of her local branch of the Child Cancer Foundation. Travelport will be donating $500 to Win’s branch of the Child Cancer Foundation.

We’d also like to acknowledge our amazing support team, we think the job they do is first-rate. The addition of Pip Fear as our Training & Development Co-ordinator and Ange Bocock as our Marketing & Communications Co-ordinator adds to the remarkable amount of expertise we have in-house, this is a huge plus for the broker team.

We also need to acknowledge our whole broker team. Without our brokers there would be no NZ Travel Brokers, and each and every one of them helps to make NZ Travel Brokers what we are today. With over 50 supplier awards and draws on the night, success was spread far and wide.

It’s been a fantastic year for NZ Travel Brokers and the weekend of the 21st – 23rd November, we came together at Wairakei Resort for our 2015 conference to celebrate our achievements and recognise the effort that goes into making NZ Travel Brokers the success it is.
