What is figurative language??

A way of using words to say more than what they sound/mean on the surface.

Difference between these sentences:Miss McNaull walked into the classroom. The students sat in their

seats.

Miss McNaull shuffled miserably into the classroom, wiping away tears with each step. Several students rose quickly to comfort her.

Miss McNaull danced cheerfully into the classroom, twirling and skipping more with each step. Her students remained seated, their gaping mouths a telling sign of the abnormality of this event.

Pun: Having an idea “come back to you” typically means that you remember it. In this instance, it also references the boomerang’s travel patterns, returning to the owner when thrown correctly.
