New Pastoral Plan to Be Revealed May 6

Building on the foundation of our last Pastoral Plan and subsequent follow up, we agreed that the parish was in an excellent position to cre-ate a new plan, called The Pastoral Goals 2018 – 2023, especially with our rapidly changing times.

With the suggestions and observations of dozens of parish, school and ministry leaders, we have identifi ed three overarching “Pastoral Initiatives” within the Pastoral Goals, including:

• Being called to deepen our own faith and spirituality• Serve and connect with others of all ages and stages• Engage one another in building and strengthening our community of faith, no matter where we are in our life’s journey

Every parishioner will be integral in shaping and carrying out the goals that will help us be better disciples of Jesus Christ at Holy Family Church. Stay tuned for information on how you can be involved in the life of the new Pastoral Plan. We look forward to continued growth in the next fi ve years and invite you to join us in this call to shape the future of our parish. Cambria TortorelliParish Life Director

HOLY FAM

ILY HAPPENINGS

Landscape Revisioning ProjectDear Parishioners, Friends and Colleagues, As you know, we are re-landscaping the area around the Church to transform it into the Garden of the Angels, a memorial garden and an oasis of calm and tranquillity within a beautiful native landscape environment. The new design will capture the welcoming spirit of Holy Family, while introducing a variety of native and drought-tolerant plants, as well as a new irrigation system that will reduce our water usage and costs signifi cantly. It will send an important message to the community regarding Holy Family's commitment to responsibly care for God's creation. Bright View, our current landscape maintenance fi rm, was contracted to do the installation of the landscape design, after a competitive bidding process in which a total of four companies submitted bids. The new Garden of the Angels should be completed by the beginning of May. I am extremely grateful to a very generous family in our parish, who has made the installation of this fi rst phase of the landscaping possible by funding a majority of the cost of $65,000. Another generous family funded the design costs for this fi rst phase. Thus, we are hoping to raise the remaining $15,000 for the cost of installation from the Holy Family community. A donation to the Garden of the Angels is a wonderful way to honor those who have gone before us into the embrace of our loving God. For more information about the project, to see the proposed design, or to make a donation, please visit http://holyfamily.org/landscape-revisioning-project/ Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. Cambria Tortorelli, Parish Life Director

Easter 2018 Thank YouEach Lent and Easter, I work to create an environment in our beautiful Church which enhances our worship experience, and brings us closer to the beauty and meaning of the Easter miracle. The Holy Spirit provides the vision; however it is only with the time, talent and kindness of a group of kind, fun, and loving volunteers that the end result comes together. From the bottom of my heart, I extend my deepest gratitude to Natalie Duran, Carlotta DiFrancisco, Sandy Fielding, Pam Kennington, Jay Kruger, David Lyman, Rosemarie Martinez, Caren and Eric Sawyer, and Judy Skitek. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Huntington Library, for providing us with the stunning variety of palm branches which made Palm Sunday, and all of Holy Week, so spectacular. Finally, it all would not have been possible without the extra effort and fl exibility of our fun and hard-working support staff member, Jose Mena. May God Bless each of you, and your families, abundantly!

Men’s Reading GroupTuesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m., Guadalupe Room. At our next meeting, we will be discussing: Telling Secrets, by Frederick Buechner. With eloquence, candor, and simplicity, a celebrated author tells the story of his father's alcohol abuse and suicide and traces the infl uence of this secret on his life as a son, father, husband, minister, and writer. This minister is not preaching to the converted but can attract the ears – and hearts – of any reader interested in acknowledging the spiritual aspect of human nature. Upcoming Book Selection(s):6/19/2018: Why I Am Catholic (and You Should Be Too, by Brandon Vogt

Women’s Reading GroupTuesday, May 1, 7:00 p.m., Guadalupe Rm. Even if you haven’t read the book, join us for wine, snacks & lively exchange about Most Dangerous: Ellsberg & the Secret History of the Vietnam War---a 2015 National Book Award fi nalist & 2016 YALSA nonfi ction winner. It tells how an obscure government analyst risked everything to expose 20 years of government lies to American people. A provocative book, it asks what patriotism, freedom, & integrity really mean.

Looking for a unique Mother’s Day Gift?

This new product in the Bookstore comes with a story from the creator of the line...here it is

Having been fortunate enough to travel to Lourdes, we wondered about those who wanted to make pilgrimages, but were unable due to financial or other issues. We thought about how we could enable the faithful to receive Lourdes water in a form that would enable daily use without the cost associated with traveling to or importing water from Lourdes. That's where the idea for Immaculate Waters comes: Add genuine Lourdes grotto water into high quality bath prod-ucts so faithful could use it on their bodies on a daily basis. We first began making soap for family and friends and now

make it available in shrine and parish gift shops.

Made with love, our soap bars and lotion contains oils of coconut, palm, and safflower, Lourdes Grotto water , shea

butter, and in our lavender and Rose products, essential oil or rose fragrance. The lotion is light and non-greasy.

Holy Family Bookstore has soap and hand lotion in Rose and Lavender fragrances as well as unscented soap and

hand lotion.

Grand Marshall for 4th of July ParadeWe are thrilled to announce that Mr. Chris Bengford has been invited by the City of South Pasadena to serve as a Grand Marshall for the annual 4th of July Parade. This year's theme is on Education, and while both public and private schools will be honored, there is no better representative than our own Mr. Bengford to represent Catholic education in our city.

You may or may not know that Chris is a native of South Pasadena. He has served for 24 years (this June) as a teach-er at Holy Family School, and has been the 8th grade homeroom teacher since 1999. Chris is also an alumni of Holy Family School (Class of '82). The Bengfords have been parishioners since 1951 (envelope #100).

Chris has touched countless lives of young people who have passed through his classroom doors. And, fortunately for us, he will continue to impact the lives of our young people.

Congratulations Chris!

Did You know?Teach children gratitude Gratitude is one of life’s greatest virtues. Teaching children to rec-ognize the many blessings in their lives helps to teach them to have grateful hearts. Modeling gratitude in your home can help your child learn what to value and be grateful for, and learn to avoid the things that are not valuable or worthy of their time and interest. PARISH HIGHLIGHTS

Come feed the little birds,

Show them you care,

And you’ll be glad if you do.

Their young ones are hungry,

Their nests are so bare.

All it takes is tuppence from you.

Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,

Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.

For just a few tuppence you can join the Holy Family School’s Drama Program as they teach us that it doesn’t take much to give love, and that it costs very little to make a difference in other people’s lives. Small gestures

of kindness can fill our lives with joy, satisfaction and meaning. Mary Poppins, the Broadway Musical,
