We'll keep pre-recording the service for the time being. To access the service, you can go directly to our Facebook Live or Facebook page, or: - Go to our website and click "View" on the top bar, then click "Live Stream," and follow the prompts. - You can also scroll down on the home page to the Online Worship section and on the line for Sunday, click "website" or "Facebook" to view.

A Letter From Ann Niday I love the people of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church (FAB). You have loved me well and supported me on my journey of faith as I have explored a deeper understanding of who God is and who he is asking me to be in the world. I have grown so much while working in ministry here. All the staff is amazing, but I want to give special mention to Alicia and Eric. They have taught, challenged, and loved me and working with them has been a highlight of my ministry experience. Each of you have shaped and influenced me and I am forever grateful. This time of pandemic has allowed me to slow down, witness the world around me, and listen to God in a way I haven’t for too long. I have watched the racial unrest and violence against black people, especially the murder of George Floyd, with anger and sadness. As a result of this I have felt God challenging me to look at my own beliefs and actions. Does how I live reflect what I believe, not only about racial injustice, but also about all areas where people are treated as lesser than because of who they are? As I have prayed and searched myself, one truth has emerged. I believe in full inclusion and affirmation for LGBTQ persons in the life of the church. I have always believed in full inclusion in the life of the church for all who love Jesus, without exceptions. I am fully LGBTQ affirming because of Jesus, my faith, and scripture, not in spite of it. While I respect and love FAB, I feel called to be part of a church whose current official policy is fully accepting of marriage and leadership roles for LGBTQ Christians. It has been a privilege to serve as the Assistant Minister of Pastoral Care at FAB and I will always be grateful for this minis-try opportunity. I will be officially resigning from this position effective August 15, 2020. This decision came with a great deal of prayer and soul searching for both David and me. It is not easy to leave this place we love. Even though our friendships will not end, we know it will be different to not be in church regularly with each other. Thank you for walking with us for so many years as church family.

Connect, Connect, Connect! We will be highlighting a homebound member of our FAB family each week. We invite you to reach out to these friends with a card, call, or email, or some other creative way. Thank you in advance for showing your love and support to the people who have not been able to fellowship in person with us for some time.

&,/>ZE Thank you to all families who participated in our virtual Vacation Bible School “Knights of North Castle” through-out the summer. Even though our VBS looked very dif-ferent this year and we missed a hundred plus voices sing-ing and laughing together, we are so thankful for technol-ogy and that the curriculum we had planned on using since winter condensed each session into five weekly vide-os so the children could still learn the Bible stories, sing, and create crafts at home. The videos are still posted, so anyone who would still like to watch them with their chil-dren are free to do so. Thank you also to the congregation who came out for our outdoor celebration, it was wonder-ful to see some friendly FAB faces. All of your participa-tion is appreciated and we hope you remember with God you can ARMOR UP WITH TRUTH, JUSTICE, PEACE, FAITH, and SALVATION!

Church Picnic "Tailgate Style" August 30th 5:30p in FABCare parking lots: Mark your calendars now for this out-door, socially-distanced "tailgate" version of our annual church picnic. Everyone will tailgate at their own cars, bring their own meal, with a safe distance in between cars--but we will be able to be together and safely sing some favorite hymns. We will also be gathering school supplies for our mission partner school, Central City Elementary before and during this event. See you then!

Sunday Morning Bible Study Our own Gwen Craddock kicked off our study of "Humor in the Bible" August 9 reflecting on what a difference our per-spective makes on how we experience the world. Gwen will also lead us this Sunday, August 16. And Katie Shull, FAB’s Communications Director and teaching team member for Cornerstone Class, will lead us August 23 and August 30. Humor in the Bible August 16 Laughter and Sorrow: Ecclesiastes 7:1-6 August 23 Mourning into Joy: Psalm 30; 1 August 30 God Has Brought Me Laughter: Genesis 17:15- 17;18:9-15; 21:1-8.

Backyard Bible Study For September and October, the Adult Education Commis-sion encourages Sunday School Classes and other groups (choir, Children’s Volunteers, etc) to meet together to pray, re-connect, and discuss the Sunday Morning Bible Study series on Parables in Luke (September) and God’s Good Gifts (October). · Your group can meet as many or few times as you’d like

during these two months. If your SS class or group is larger, divide into smaller groups, choose a facilitator, and decide on how to meet, which may vary from week to week:

· Here are our suggestions: o A socially distanced, outdoor discussion:

Backyard? Driveway? You choose! o Meet at the church in one of our large

rooms for a socially distanced discussion (call church office to reserve your space)

o Online via Zoom (Katie can help set you up) or conference call.

o Let Alicia know what your group chooses to do so we can help you get the word out!

Adopt-a-College Student: We are updating our college and graduate student list right now, so if you have address and contact information updates, please send them to Christy Bird or Alicia Porterfield. We are praying for all of you!
