The Get Well Spoon app offers a solution to people that want to send a get well soon card

but:

• finds the price of a card and postage too expensive

• do not have the time/are not able to go into town to buy

a card and stamp

• the illness comes on fast

• the person with the illness is only going to have a short

term illness “manflu!”

We were thinking about apps and thinking about what we could do that has not been done before.

Although E-Cards are out there on the market we feel our

fresh, fun approach can fill a void that is there.

Currently with the E-Card market there is a generalisation of all types of cards.

Our app brings this down to a smaller category! And this is

people that are ill, unwell or generally down.

We feel our app can bring a little sunshine into someone's life at the touch of a button, for less than the price of a hand

written alternative.

Why Get Well Spoon?

Illness can happen in an instant, it can happen any time to anyone. Handwritten cards have been used for centuries but with the mobile age we feel that an app that sends get well E-Cards offers a fresh modern alternative. Our app is designed solely for two reasons, simplicity and fun. We want our app to be as user friendly as possible so anyone, in any country can use it. We also feel it is essential that the person who receives a Get Well Spoon!!! Smiles.

Page 5: Fife College, Team 2 Group 2, Apps for Good Presentation

We have found through research, that most hospitals now allow mobile phones to be used by patients on wards. The app now gives a little ray of sunshine instantaneously. Through todays technology is far more up to date than that of old fashioned cards.

Hi there, We are NQ Digital Media Students studying at Fife College.

As part of our course we were asked to plan an app and if we

wanted to submit it for entry in the Apps for Good competition!

We thought our app was good enough and unique enough to enter, so we have!

In todays hectic lifestyle time is precious to us every second counts, between picking up the kids from school, doing the

housework and squeezing in your shift at work getting to the shop for that get well soon card is low down in the order of the

day.

Add to this the price of a card, stamp and delivery time!!! It can be very costly.

Page 8: Fife College, Team 2 Group 2, Apps for Good Presentation

With Get Well Spoon we aim to solve that problem.

With a simple and user friendly interface we will offer the user the chance to create a fast and unique E-Card at the touch of a few

buttons.

We will also offer a cheaper alternative to traditional cards with the user producing their own fun modern E-Card that is instantly

sent to the recipient, much more environmentally friendly and much more personal.

Page 9: Fife College, Team 2 Group 2, Apps for Good Presentation

Through our market research we were given very good feedback on the feasibility of our app.

We asked the following questions on an online

survey form:

If a friend was ill, how would they most likely be cheered up?

45% said text/picture message, 14% said card

If an app was available to send a picture message as an "E-Card" would you download it?

42% said Yes

Picking up someone's spirits when ill can make their day, do

you agree?

A massive 95% said Yes

What’s out there already? If so why Get Well Spoon?

We have looked all over the web and app stores to find products similar, don’t get us wrong there are other reputable companies out there offering an

E-Card service.

BUT

They do not offer the customisable feature that we offer to make each card unique in there own

way, they also don’t solely concentrate on E-Cards for get well wishes and they also do not hold the

fun factor we feel our E-Card and branding holds.

Get Well Spoon core features:

• A fully interactive interface • Customisable:

• Character • Background • User message

• Downloadable pre-designed Get Well Spoon cards available

and updated seasonally from our webstore.

User A: User A has a family member that has just been struck down by the deadly MAAAANFLU!!!!! She downloads our app, spends 5 minutes customising her Get Well Spoon and message before hitting the send and save button on the app. The E-Card is then sent via MSM to the family member. (The price of the MSM is charged to the senders phone bill through an outside vendor so there is no need for credit card details)

As you can see our App Menu is simple, clean and easy to use

From our main menu, you come to the user friendly spoon customisation screen, each tab has allows various design options

Page 13: Fife College, Team 2 Group 2, Apps for Good Presentation

Each tab comes with a image Preview

Allowing the user to clearly see and customise their “Get Well Spoon”

We have gone for a simple design with maximum chance to customise the images for that personal touch

Data, Content and Technical Feasibility. There are a few points where we will need to employ outside help for this project these would be:

• An Artist for designing the spoon template and future seasonal

releases • An outside vendor for taking payments such as www.bango.com • Copyright and Data Protection • Trademark of the brand name “Get Well Spoon”

Outwith this it is all down to the user and the power of their creativity, the app is simple enough for the beginner to the technically advanced. The person receiving should have nothing to do but open up an email.

The Business Model!

We had a look at how Get Well Spoon will impact and who the app benefits. We found that the sender should be the person paying. As asking the receiver to pay when they are ill shouldn’t be asked of. There is the opportunity to offer to businesses like Moonpig, Clinton Cards or Funky Pigeon as these already do traditional cards and might be on the lookout for something like our product. But we have decided on a Free Download and a small charge to the sender. The receiver needs not to spend a penny or any time. Through market research we found most people would be willing to pay for an app that offers a cheaper alternative to the traditional alternative.

Marketing?

Marketing was high on our agenda when we come up with this app. We plan on promoting the app on Facebook and Twitter, also adding a post to Facebook/Twitter link within the app. Word of mouth we hope that the catchy name will be on everyone's tongues. Once it catches on we hope people would be able to find the app in no time at all. If you look at Angry Birds app the fame come after the app with little advertisement. We would also create a website to showcase the product with a link for download and a customer support link.

App Design Mock-up A Drink at the Last Chance Saloon!

Throughout the app idea phase we have done a lot of customer

scoping and had very good feedback from nearly everyone we have spoke to

We chatted to a couple of experts on our journey:

Technical Feasibility expert – Dan Bennett ( Thompson Reuters )

Technical Law expert – Tom Greenbank (SAP)

Both seemed very excited and enthusiastic about our idea, which in turn gave us the drive to pursue this app further.
