AVAILABILITY: April 18 – August 30, 2018, WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS ONLY! CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MISSIONS: PLEASE NOTE: Missions are not available June 11-15 and July 16-20. Mercury Mission: $11 per person 10am – 12:30pm (max 30 participants) - Destination Moon, Apollo 11 Mission Special Exhibition (10am); Private Education Program (11am) and Lunch (noon) Gemini Mission: $12 per person 10am – 1pm (max 100 participants) - Destination Moon, Apollo 11 Mission Special Exhibition (10am); Live Sky: Magnificent Moon Planetarium Show (11:30am) and Lunch (12:30pm) Apollo Mission: $16 per person 10am – 2pm (max 30 participants) - Destination Moon, Apollo 11 Mission Special Exhibition (10am), Live Sky: Magnificent Moon Planetarium Show (11:30am), Lunch (12:30pm) and Private Education Program (1pm) * PLEASE NOTE: ALL missions require a minimum of 15 paid participants and, depending on the program, can serve a maximum of 30 – 100 participants. One free adult chaperone is required for every five students. Additional adults will be charged the program fee and the parking fee. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your program start time as programs will begin promptly at 10am. Doors open at 9:30am. Field trip schedules are subject to change. NO ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Program Components: Enjoy a Private Destination Moon Educational Program, Lunar Rover Rollout! (Approximately 1 hour) Jump into your spacesuit and help our astronauts create a better lunar buggy. Using everyday materials, design and build your very own lunar buggy and test its capabilities against each other. By experimenting with different payload masses, buggy designs, and slope angles, students will build a better buggy! Experience Live Sky: Magnificent Moon Planetarium Show, James S. McDonnell Planetarium (Approximately 1 hour) In this star show we will explore a few of the myths, phenomena and misconceptions related to the Moon to better understand our silent neighbor in space. Concepts such as how the Moon formed, the lunar phases, terms such as supermoon and blue moon and a discussion of a few lunar hoaxes will be used to show how anyone can study and explore the Moon from our backyards. Following the show, all ticketed visitors will participate in hands-on demonstrations and activities that reinforce concepts learned throughout the show. Explore Destination Moon, Apollo 11 Mission Special Exhibition (Approximately 1 hour) Featuring the Apollo command module Columbia—the only portion of the historic spacecraft to return from that momentous mission—the exhibition will explore the birth of the American space program and the space race. The Destination Moon exhibition tour is developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) and the National Air and Space Museum Field trip participants can also purchase photos of themselves on the moon for a discounted rate of $5. Lunch (12:15–1pm) Lunch may be purchased starting at $6 per student and $9.50 for adults, or you can bring your own. Bus parking is free – cars are $10 per vehicle, free parking for required chaperones. NOTE: Reservations are required at least 2 weeks in advance and we must receive payment 10 days prior to your scheduled field trip. Cancellation policy: Payment is required 10 days prior to your scheduled field trip. Cancellation after that time period will result in forfeiture of the full activity amount. SLSC may cancel the program with at least one-week prior notice, in which case SLSC will promptly refund the amount previously paid and your organization will be relieved of any payment obligation. SLSC shall however, in no event, be responsible for any loss incurred by your organization other than the program payments received.
