Our Cups for a Cause program was designed to highlight Non-Profit Organizations in our community that are working
hard to help our islands with environmental or social causes. Cups for a Cause is a biannual program, in which we create
a custom design on our 12 oz and 16 oz cold cups that represents the non-profit organization chosen. Our goal is to use
these cups to raise awareness of the organizations hard work, as well as provide financial assistance by donating $2000

Composting FAQ
What’s the point of disposables being
compostable?
Compostable disposables are designed to be mixed
with food waste and composted in an industrial
facility. This eliminates the need to sort, meaning the
lids, cups, utensils, and clamshells with leftover rice
and chicken katsu, can all go in the same bin together
to be composted.
What’s wrong with recyclables?
The word recyclable typically has a positive response in
people minds. However, the reality is that less than 10%
of the plastics are actually recycled in the US.
Furthermore, plastic can only be recycled once, and it is
typically recycled into something of lower quality
because the polymers break down in the recycling
process. In addition, 25% of items placed in recycling
bins are sent to the landfill due to the contamination.
The moral of the recycling story?
Food waste + plastic = not recyclable.
What are composting conditions?
Compostable packaging has to be in composting
conditions in order to breakdown. Industrial facilities
provide the perfect combination of moisture, heat, and
microbes to breakdown compostable disposables
alongside food waste.
Although compostable disposables may be composted
at home (we’ve seen successful home composting of
both PLA and Fiber). The success of at home composting
depends on the skill of the householder to maintain the
right temperature, moisture, and heat. Therefore, we do
not guarantee the successful composting of our
products at home.
What’s the point if I can’t compost it?
Our earth has finite resources. Disposables are used for
such a short time, that using renewable resources, such
as wheat straw, bagasse, or corn, makes perfect sense.
And, although our state doesn’t necessarily have the

build the facilities to support it.
Biodegradable or Compostable?
The process is essentially the same, the speed of
breakdown is what makes the two terms very different.
Compostable means that the product will break down
in under 12 weeks in an industrial composting facility.
Biodegradable, has no set timeline to breakdown. A surf
board is biodegradable; thus, the term biodegradable
does not have any environmentally positive implications
when used to describe to-go packaging or utensils.
