Fiat Chrysler Recalls Thousands Of Vehicles

Fiat Chrysler Automobile company currently has its hands full with recall issues.

These recalls are being handled by Fiat Chrysler at the same time the vehicle safety

regulators are claiming that the company has previously mishandled nearly two dozen

previous recalls.

The current recall issues have to do with hundreds of thousands of SUVs and trucks

that have rear mounted gas tanks and steering issues.

The steering issue can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle due to defective

parts.

Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 579,000 vehicle in 2013, but now the National Highway Traffic

Administration is requiring the company to buy back some Dodge Ram pickups and Chrysler SUVs

due to the severity of this steering issue.

Fiat Chrysler Owners Face Long Waiting Lists

To compound the problem, owners of these affected vehicles that have been notified of this recall initiative have found themselves placed on waiting lists that last for months

due to shortages in repair parts.

Imagine being the driver of one of these vehicles and wondering as you drive down

the road whether you are suddenly going to lose control of your vehicle while traveling at

60 MPH.

There are also more than one million vehicles that have been manufactured by Fiat Chrysler that have rear mounted gas

tanks that have proven to be vulnerable to explosions when rear end collisions occur.

Imagine being the driver of one of these vehicles and looking in your rear view mirror every time

you are coming to a stop at a red light and praying that the driver behind you is paying attention and

is not going to rear end you vehicle.

More than 70 individuals have been killed as a result of fires caused by rear end collisions of these vehicles.

Drivers of vehicles with these types of gas tanks have been offered the option of

trading in their vehicle at above market value or having repairs made to the gas

tanks.

The solution to this issue is having the gas tank protected by installing a trailer hitch as

a form of protection.

The company is facing a fine of up to $105

million dollars for this misstep.

In recent years, regulators have become more aggressive in dealing with auto manufacturers who either fail to disclose defects that they are

aware of or who don't properly conduct a recall of defective vehicles.

Tax Payers Bailed Fiat Chrysler Out

A few years ago, taxpayers provided more than one billion dollars to bail out Chrysler.

In return, the least that Fiat Chrysler could do is to make sure that the vehicles

purchased from them are safe for consumers to drive.
