The GPD Final Program for the 2013 Conference is out. As we summon the elite of the glass world once again we do so in times that have seldom been so challenging. New technology is constantly pressing forward with all the requirements that follow for individuals and corporations. The need for cost-efficient innovation has seldom been greater than in these financially difficult times.

In the past we have always risen to the current challenges and will do so again. The innovators and entrepreneurs in small as well as big corporations deserve maximum exposure in their efforts to promote progress in our business. Some of the tools we bring to serve this purpose deal expressly with taking maximum benefit of a Conference bringing top specialists together. Our Meeting Manager Function is one of these tools. The ambition is to make the most of interaction and networking and to do so in a planned way honouring both timetables and special requests. We urge you to make use of this unique function.

Another service that we are really emphasizing is communicating the great skills of our specialists and lecturers to a wider audience. This we can do through efficient communications that puts the high-light on the unique contributions that our specialists offer to technology and business.

We are well aware that a lot of these efforts have been developed “burning the midnight oil” in laboratories and companies. We are intent to illuminate these contributions as brightly and widely as possible in full solar daylight. The new properties of the further developed www.glassfiles.com portal, our established channels to the professional media and our comprehensive documentation of the proceedings all serve this purpose. All this will enhance the positions of leading specialists on the world scene and build-up tangible professional profiles.

As we issue our Final Program we hope that our professionals shall respond to our call as eagerly as before and make use of the opportunity to secure maximum favourable exposure for all.

Welcome to Tampere in June 2013

TASTE OF TAMPEREWednesday, June 12: 18.00 pm – 20.00 • Price: 30€ per person (+ VAT 24%)

Versatile, and fascinating sightseeing and taste-testing tour showing you the best parts of the city, Finnish cuisine and the best restaurants. Join to this “not so typical” sightseeing tour which is designed only for GPD 2013 participants! Tampere is located between two beautiful lakes named Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. The water flows from Näsijärvi and runs in rapids through the city, falling a total of 18 metres before it reaches Pyhäjärvi. The factories harnessed the power of the rapids, and this is how the story of this industrial city began. Today, Tampere is the largest inland city in Scandinavia and its population is growing. We visit the Pispala district at the highest point of the Pispalanharju ridge, showing visitors the most beautiful lake view in the city. Pispala is also an architecturally fascinating neighbourhood built during a time without a unified local development plan, resulting in unique building styles and urban solutions, some dating as far back as the late 1800’s.We will climb up to the Pyynikki old observation tower and enjoy fresh coffee or tea with the best donuts in town! This tour offers a superb way to get to know the city of Tampere and will prepare you for the GPD 2013 Conference! Price includes: Guided tour by bus, coffee or tea, doughnut and entrance to the Pyynikki observation tower, a list of the top restaurants and cafeterias in town. Fact

s about Finlan

d

ClimateOne notable effect of Finland’s northerly position on the globe is that the four seasons of the year are clearly distinct from one another. The climate is marked by cold winters and warm summers. The highest daytime temperature in southern Finland during the summer occasionally rises to almost 30 degrees Celsius. During the winter months, particularly in January and February, temperatures of minus 20 Celsius are not uncommon. In the far north, beyond the Arctic Circle, the sun does not set for about 73 days, producing the white nights of summer. In the same region, during the winter period, the sun remains below the horizon for 51 days, creating the polar night.
