The blocks in this quilt are assembled using a foundation paper piecing technique. Basic paper piecing instructions are not included, but the web is full of great information on the subject. Jennifer Mathis of EllisonLane.com has a great introduction to foundation paper piecing here: http://ellisonlane.com/2013/08/beginningpaperpiecing.html
Materials:
fabric glue stick or straight pins thread paper scissors 60” x 70” batting transparent ruler rotary cutter paper for printing templates cutting mat light table
Cutting Instructions:
(Bright) White Border: Cut five 1.5” x WOF strips - Take the fifth strip and cut two 12” pieces out of it. Sew each 12” strip onto the end of one of the WOF strips. You should now have two 1.5” x WOF strips and two 1.5” by approx. 54” strips, with some left over. You can use the left over pieces in the blocks.
Gray (Ozone) Border: Cut five 3.5” x WOF strips. Cut and sew pieces from the fifth strip to the other four strips as necessary to make the following strip sizes: two 3.5” x 42.5” strips and two 3.5” x 58.5”. Make them a little longer if you like for a little wiggle room, and trim them down later as you sew them on.
Lime Border: Cut five 2.5” x WOF strips. As on the previous borders, use the fifth strip to cut and sew together with the other strips to make the following sizes: two 2.5” x 48.5” strips and two 2.5” x 62.5” strips.
Blocks: Foundation paper piecing doesn't require exact cutting. You basically use a piece that's just big enough to cover the template piece you're sewing. Starting out you might be more comfortable cutting a slightly larger piece than you think you need, but as you get more familiar with the technique you'll probably be more comfortable using smaller ones. You also might want to make a test block with scrap fabrics first to get a feel for it. Since these blocks are repeated, once you find fabric sizes you're comfortable working with write it down to reference when you're cutting fabric for the same blocks later.
Backing: Cut yardage across WOF so you have one 70” long piece and one 38” long piece. Subcut the 38” x WOF piece in half vertically so you have two 38” x 21” pieces. Sew these together short end to short end for one long piece approx. 75.5” x 21”. Now sew this long piece together with the 70” x WOF fabric and trim off excess for an approx. finished size of 62.5” x 70”.
Dark Green (Spearmint) Binding: Cut six 2.5” x WOF strips and sew together, end to end, with a 45 angle seam to make one very long strip.

Print out the paper templates at the end of this pdf and use them to piece together all twenty 10” blocks by following the diagrams below. Each block uses a set of templates that takes up two printed sheets. Please reference the Block Placement Diagram to see which fabrics I used in each block.
