2O19 QUILTER OF D ISTINCTIONAna Buzzalino

The Heritage Park Festival of Quilts is honoured to present Ana Buzzalino as the 2019 Quilter of Distinction. For the last 30 years, Ana has worked to become a very established and renowned local fibre artist. Ana’s work embodies a variety of techniques, from traditional piecing to more modern fabric art. Ana is a frequent contributor to Quilting Arts Magazine

and Quilting Arts TV. Her work has also appeared in the American Quilter’s Society Magazine, A Needle Pulling Thread, Modern Patchwork, 101 Patchwork Projects, Quilts and Quilt Scene. Ana’s quilts have also won several awards at local, national, and international shows. From her first quilting class at Freckles Quilt Shop in Kensington in the mid 1980s, she began her quilting journey and it has manifested itself into an artistic passion for the fibre arts.

Ana is always floating throughout the quilting community here in Calgary where she donates her

time to teach her techniques and do demos to groups at various local guilds. She has donated quilts to be auctioned for charity, along with donating fabric and craft supplies to Ujamaa Grandmas, Victoria’s Quilts and local seniors’ homes. She also volunteers with the Canadian Quilters Association to work the booth at special events. Ana has canvassed for the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, participated with the United Way, A Day Makes a Difference, and Corporate Challenge campaigns through her workplace.   In 2007, Ana was the guest speaker at the Gala Dinner for the Festival of Quilts. Heritage Park is so honoured to have her back as Quilter of Distinction. Her body of work will inspire and keep you wanting to see what’s coming next.

*Supply lists will be provided upon registration.

WEDNESDAY MAY 22 Trash to Treasure Pineapple Workshop 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $179.99 +GST

Okay isn’t it time to clear the clutter in your life? Oops, too much? What about using up all those bits and pieces stuffed in nooks, crannies and boxes? Better? Let’s make an old fashioned favorite pineapple quilt with a new and contemporary twist. Effortless stitching without paper piecing! Go scrappy, random or totally stylized — it doesn’t matter, just plan to join the Pineapple Par-tay! This workshop turns trash to a treasured one-of-a-kind pineapple quilt.

FRIDAY MAY 24 Play Modern Workshop 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $179.99 +GST

It’s fast, it’s quick, it’s geometric and it’s Tumbling Blocks with controlled free-style piecing. We will start with the thought of having fun and being in the moment. The technique is to use Polygon2 Diamonds and Butterfly Seams to create a BOLD wall-hanging that shouts, “Modern” or “Contemporary”. This workshop is about you with over 6 options for the free-style piecing.

THURSDAY MAY 23 It Takes Seven Sisters Workshop 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $179.99 +GST

Nothing is more stunning than 20 brilliant stars made from diamonds. “Seven Sisters“ block is what makes this quilt sparkle. The power in the sparkle is created by using 3 inch strips of 20 great fabrics from a narrow colour palette. Assembly is not as hard as you think. In this workshop you will learn the Butterfly Seam for perfect set-in piecing. Come ready to relax and chat; you are not expected to finish this in class since there is no speed sewing. This beauty takes time to complete.
