Russell IPM has been in the forefront of insect monitoring for the past twenty years. We formulate 150

pheromone lures for insects around the world. We design and manufacture our own plastic insect traps in

house. We have a wide range of pressure sensitive adhesive coating equipment to produce different sizes and

formats of boards and rolls. Russell IPM has the technology to incorporate pheromones and attractants into

the adhesive layer. Russell IPM is a customer focused company with products developed around market needs.

Russell IPM sources its raw materials globally and updates its production technology regularly to ensure that

its customers have the best value for money and command the best market position.

An innovative Tuta absoluta trap.Ferolite is an innovative Tuta absoluta trap where light and pheromones

are combined to maximise trap catches. To maximise mass trapping

with a view to capturing female Tuta absoluta moths as well as the

male, Russell IPM incorporated a specific wavelength of light and

sex pheromone in a single trap as Ferolite. The operating principle of

Ferolite is based on the synergy of sex pheromone and a particular light

frequency to which Tuta absoluta is most attracted to. Ferolite is a self

contained, ready to use unit powered by solar energy. The solar based

unit will extend the reach of the technology to remote farms that

normally have no access to a mains power supply.

Ferolite has proved up to 200-300% more effective than the standard pheromone trap.

The synergistic effect of light and pheromone increases the trap catches substantially.

In experimental studies Ferolite showed a significant improvement on capturing

Tuta absoluta than that of application pheromone and light individually.

Tuta absoluta mating patterns have been studied extensive in green houses. The

maximum numbers of moths were captured in the Ferolite, pheromone and light trap

during the time frame of 3-4 hours before sunrise. Therefore the Ferolite trap light is

controlled through a regulator to switch on the light in the last quarter of the night to

maximize the trap efficacy.

Ferolite is an innovative Tuta absoluta trap based on the synergy between sex pheromone and a particular

wave length of light to which Tuta absoluta is most attracted. Using Ferolite in conjunction with the

TUA-Optima lure showed a huge improvement to the mass trapping of Tuta absoluta. The Ferolite trap has

been evaluated in research trials and has proved to a high performance Tuta absoluta trap that is non toxic

to the environment and to non target organisms including other beneficial arthropods, pollinators and

mammals. The excellent performance of the trap significantly reduced the number of the background

population of Tuta absoluta and maintained a good level of control. The Ferolite based mass trapping system

shows a significant efficacy for the control of Tuta absoluta that has developed increasing resistance to

conventional insecticides.

Ferolite is pre-programmed to operate during the hours before dawn when Tuta absoluta is most active. This

feature targets Tuta absoluta’s mating behaviour while minimising trapping of all other insects including

beneficial insects which are normally not active during that time window and also are not sensitive to the

particular wavelength emitted by the Ferolite trap. Ferolite-TUA is a self contained unit powered by solar

energy. The solar-based unit will extend the reach of this technology to remote farms, which normally have

no access to a mains power supply.

Main Advantages:

■ Ferolite based on synergy of sex pheromone and a special wavelength of light.

■ Integration of Pheromone and light trap in one solar powered unit.

■ 200-300% more effective than the standard pheromone traps.

■ Specially design for mass trapping.

■ Compatible with all sorts of biological control systems.

■ Non toxic to environment and to beneficial arthropods including pollinators.

■ Safe, effective and environmentally friendly.
