The FCM line

The FELZER nordAQUA FCM line consists of 15 machines with capacities ranging from 110 to 520 kW, using scroll compressors. Thanks to the most advanced components and solutions, the entire line combines low-noise and high-performance with maximum reliability.

Machines can be supplied in either “cool only” or “reversible (cooling and heating)” versions. You can choose between energy effi ciency classes, microchannel or copper-aluminium condensers. You can also select among options for low-noise operation, free cooling, partial heat recovery, built-in hydronic pump packages, and other solutions to fi t your needs.

Technology and reliability

When creating our machines, we try to fi nd a balance between nature and technology. That is why we use R410a refrigerant, which is ozone-friendly, and allows to achieve high performance with relatively small refrigerat charge. Felzer’s production facilities are certifi ed to ISO 14001 standard, and you can be sure that you are causing no harm to the environment when buying our products.

All chiller components are produced in the European Union and have the CE marking. The machines are assembled in Northern Europe. That, in addition to the sturdy construction of the cabinet, eliminates excess noise and prevents breakage.

Energy efficient

Yes, you can use FELZER nordAQUA FCMs if you are looking to cut electricity costs and require a class A machine, if you want to cheaply heat water using heat recovery in your hot water supply or heating system, or if you just don’t see the point in wasting power on compressors in the winter and want to take advantage of free cooling. Yes, you can save you money and buy reliable and high-quality class B or C machine. The FCM line off ers a wide range of possibilities to the profeccionals in managing energy effi ciency.

In contrast to most of our competitors, the compressors used in our chillers do not exceed single capacity of 25 tons. At partial load, which in most areas of Europe is 95% of the time, the chillers ensure the smallest reasonable changes in cooling capacity when shifting between stages, which is regulated by an advanced control algorithm. Our gradually-regulated chillers are as close as you can get to constant regulation.

Felzer is located at the crossroads of Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe, and so we are never far from our clients in these regions. We know their needs, and take them into account when designing our machines. We have solutions for the harsh continental climate of central Russia, with temperatures that range from -40°С in the winter and +45°С in the summer, for the chilly Scandinavian climate where it doesn’t often go above +25°С, and for the moderate climate of Germany and the Alpine countries. And, you can reach us by car.

The noise from the chiller is muted thanks to a set of implemented solutions. Many of these we off er as options, since not all buildings require them. But the eff ectiveness of the option depends on the basic solutions chosen. And it is here that Felzer is one step ahead. Our chillers use one of the best fans in Europe and the latest generation of compressors. The sturdy cabinet and well-planned construction eliminates noise from component vibration that cannot be controlled by other means.

The body of the chiller is made from galvanized steel and coated with a long-lasting powder coating, protecting it from rust in the most diffi cult conditions. The large selection of coatings for the condensers allows you to place our chillers near corrosive agents.

Scroll compressors We use the most advanced scroll compressors available. They ensure a long and failure-free operational life, maintain a low noise level, and save on energy use.

Axial fans Large axial fans combine a low noise level with high productivity and energy effi ciency. To minimize the noise level and energy consumption, you have the option of choosing fans with EC motors, or installing fan speed regulators with AC motors.

Reliable power componentsThe modern power components ensure reliable and long-term control and protection of the compressor, fans, and pumps.

Electronic expansion valve Allows for precise regulation of the system’s operation. When combined with a modern controller, it ensures low energy consumption and a wide range of work modes.

MICROCHANNEL CONDENSER OPTION 130

At the core of FELZER nordAQUA FCM machines are the copper-aluminium condensers. They have been thoroughly tested on the market, and are an excellent and reliable solution. Microchannel all-aluminium condensers have been widely used on “cool only” machines since the end of the 1990s. They can be included in the FELZER nordAQUA FCM as well (you can fi nd the specifi cations for the two versions of the machine in the specifi cations table. Microchannel condensers have a number of advantages over copper and aluminium condensers. First, they are lighter and more compact; the machines in which they are installed require up to 60% less refrigerant charge. Second, they are made from a single metal, which protects them from galvanic corrosion. Third, they are easier to clean – just run them under a stream of highly pressurized water. And fourth, all of these advantages together make this solution more capital-intensive. Microchannel condensers cannot be used in heat pumps, since they cannot also function as evaporators. The copper and aluminium condensers have their advantages as well. First, the air-cooled fi ns of microchannel condensers are more aff ected by contamination. Therefore, if the condenser is not regularly cleaned, with time the fi ns become plugged up and the machine’s performance level drops. Second, copper and aluminum condensers can be repaired, while repairing microchannel condensers is quite diffi cult. If there is a high risk that the condenser will be mechanically damaged, it is best to choose a copper and aluminum condenser. In particularly aggressive environments, either option may be better, depending on other factors. See option 131A/B/C and consult with Felzer specialists.

CONDENSER COATINGS OPTION 131A/B/C

In highly aggressive environments (the seaside, chemical production, etc.), it is recommended that you use either copper and aluminium condensers with Blygold coating or microchannel compressors with either e-coating or Blygold coating. Which one is best depends on the specifi c situation. More information on each type of coating can be provided upon request. Please contact Felzer’s specialists for assistance.

PROTECTIVE OPTIONS OPTIONS 132A/B/C/D• Protective side panels on the cooling towers (option 132D) protect the pipes

from the condenser from physical damage, and also serve a decorative purpose.

• The security grille (option 132A) protects the chiller from infi ltration by people and large animals.

• The mesh strainer on the condenser (option 132С) protects the condenser from large contaminants (poplar fl uff , insects, large stones, etc.).

FANS WITH EC MOTORS OPTION 133AAllows for smooth control of the condensation pressure and decreases energy consumption.

INDOOR INSTALLATION FANS WITH AVAILABLE PRESSURE AND DISCHARGE DUCTS OPTION 134Installation of fans that allow heated air to be expelled from the chiller’s condensers through air ducts allows you to install the chiller indoors.

WORK AT LOW TEMPERATURES AND WITH A LIGHT LOAD: REGULATING FAN SPEED OPTION 431A/BAt a low ambient temperature (below +12°С, to -20°С), a condensation pressure necessary for the compressor to operate must be maintained. If there is no EC motor, this can be done using other methods of regulating fan speed. We propose two options:

• Operation at low temperatures (below +12°С, to -20°С): regulating fan speed using a thyristor regulator (when using a standard AC fan).

• Operation at low temperatures (below +12°С, to -20°С): regulating fan speed using a frequency regulator (when using a standard AC fan).

WORK AT LOW TEMPERATURES AND WITH A LIGHT LOAD: PROTECTING THE EVAPORATOR AND HYDRONIC PUMP PACKAGE FROM FREEZING OPTION 432A/B, 433 If it is necessary to work in freezing ambient temperatures (below +5°С, to -20°С), or when chilling liquids to temperatures close to freezing, you must also prevent the liquid in the evaporator from freezing (since this may damage it). At low temperatures, a glycol solution must therefore be used. However, if freezing is a possibility, we suggest the following options for work at these temperatures:

• An electric heating element on the evaporator (option 432A) will protect the evaporator from freezing during the short-term liquid temperature decreasing (closing to the freezing point).

• Set for external placement of the evaporator outside of the chiller (external evaporator) (option 433А) – allows you to place the evaporator indoors and not use glycol in the system. Requires installation by a certifi ed specialist.

WORK AT LOW TEMPERATURES AND WITH A LIGHT LOAD:• Hot gas bypass (option 434A) – allows you to create additional steps of work

for compressors.

• Phase control relay (option 531B) – protects the electric and control/instrumentation equipment during a faulty or incorrect launch.

HYDRONIC PUMP PACKAGES OPTIONS 331A/B/C/D AND 339AFELZER nordAQUA FCM chillers can come with hydronic pump packages that allow you to save space and cut installation expenses. There are 4 versions of hydronic pump package available: with one or two pumps, and high or low pressure. The storage tank is installed separately from the chiller, but can be shipped together with it. The thermal insulation is done in-factory, and the tanks are well protected from corrosion.

OTHER OPTIONS:• Shock mounts (option 631A) – protects the building from vibrations.

• Adapters for grooved couplings (threaded) (option 632B) – if you do not have adapters for connecting the chiller pipes to the system pipes.

• Painted in the color of the client’s choice on the RAL palette (option 633A).

• Storage at temperatures higher than 48°С – storage of refrigerant in the condenser. This option is required for transportation in shipping containers. Not compatible with microchannel condensers (option 634A).

ENERGY EFFICIENCY • Partial heat recovery by cooling the discharge line (option 731А) – part of the

heat given off by the chiller can be recovered for a water system (hot water, heating).

• Full heat recovery (with copper and aluminium condensers (option 732А) – most of the heat given off by the chiller can be recovered for a water system (hot water, heating).

• Reversible chiller – the ability to switch to heat pump mode (with copper and aluminium condensers) (option 733А) – the chiller can work in the “cooling only” mode and in the “cooling and heating” mode).

• Free-cooling (option 734А) – direct cooling of the liquid (without using the compressors) using the machine’s cooling towers.

EASE OF MAINTENANCE• Ball valve on the compressor’s suction line) (on the discharge line in the

standard version) (option 831А) – allows the compressor to be repaired with removing the refrigerant.

• Ball valve before the safety valve on the discharge line (for servicing without removing the refrigerant from the circuit) (option 831B).
