Happy National Volunteer Appreciation Week!

I have said many times that ‘WE’ (the Community Care Northumberland staff) would not be here without ‘YOU’ (the over 700

Community Care Northumberland Volunteers). This week across the Country is the time to say this loud and clear, and thank

you for the wonderful work you do in the community and the powerful impact you make to the lives of over 6,000

Northumberland residents.

Our CCN volunteers delivered over 82,000 hours of service last year which translates into having the equivalent of an additional

45 full time staff members in our offices. This is truly an amazing contribution to your community and all volunteers should feel

proud of the accomplishments you perform each and every day.

Volunteers are performing a multitude of tasks with the Community Care family:

· Driving clients to appointments,

· Helping to prepare or deliver meals on wheels,

· Phoning an isolated person to ensure they are well,

· Visiting an individual with a life limiting illness,

· Working in an office taking calls and requests from

clients,

· Organizing and helping out at fundraising activities,

· Facilitating groups to encourage social interactions,

· Providing governance support on the Board or

Committee.

This is just a sampling of the many ways you can make an impact in your community and at the same time meet new people,

learn new skills and feel good about your contributions.

Help us by telling your friends and neighbours about the positive impact of volunteering. Maybe they too will join a community

group.

And, please mark on your calendar June 8th 2018, the date that Community Care Northumberland will be inviting all CCN

volunteers to join together and celebrate the ‘Value of Volunteering’. More details will be coming regarding this third annual

event!

CCN In the News: Hospice Hike Returns With Help from Brighton Community Groups

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased to announce it will be hosting the 8th Annual “Hospice Hike” in Memorial Park in Brighton on May 6th, 2018 from 10 am to noon. The fundraising goal for this event is $10,000 and the funds raised support the Hospice Services program that operates throughout Northumberland County.

This year the Brighton Army Cadets will participate, provide volunteers to set up, guide and marshal the hike and walk routes, along with helping to raise awareness of the event.

The Rotary Club of Brighton is hosting the lunch BBQ with all proceeds being donating to this event.

The YMCA is also providing assistance during the opening ceremony – getting the crowd warmed up before the walk.

“Partnering with other community groups like the Brighton Army Cadets, The Rotary Club and YMCA ties into our agency’s values,” said Trish Baird – Executive Director of CCN. “This collaboration truly reflects how our Hospice Services program operates to provide clinical and nonclinical care in the community to patients with a life limiting illness and to their caregivers.”

“Our Hospice Services support clients in living well until they die. Our trained volunteers focus on dignity and individual needs as they provide compassionate care and support to clients and their families, said Baird. “Our services and programs allow us to support clients in a variety of locations, providing continuity if a client moves from place to place. This support program is offered at no cost to clients or their families.”

“We need pledges and participation in our “Hospice Hike” walk to help ensure that this continues,” Baird added.
