About Water in Italy … The Sea

Italy is a peninsula in the

Mediterranean Sea. Among its

20 regions, there’re only 5

regions without access to the

sea.

Major subdivisions of the

Mediterranean Sea include :

•Adriatic Sea,

•Tyrrhenian Sea, (the bigger

Italian sea)

•Ionian Sea

•Ligurian Sea.

The Rivers

Several rivers but many of them are

very short because of the Apennines.

The major ones are in the North and they rise from the Alps

Italy has got large quantity of water

but

Italians use a lot of it !

40 liters per day : of freshwater per person is generally considered to be a necessary minimum to meet needs for drinking and sanitation.

165 liters per day: of freshwater per person is the European average.

215 liters per day of freshwater per person: is the italian average

Italy is in the first place in Europe for water consumption !

And It’s in the third place in the world, after USA and Canada !

About Waste Problem in Italy …

Good practices Bad practicesVs

Good practices

The waste separation.

In some cities and towns the waste separation is compulsory

2 kinds: 1. With garbage bins in the street

In other cities people can choose for the waste separation

or not.

2. With door-to-door waste collection (as in my town)

With different days for different waste

Bad practices

Not to take care of Environment

In some big cities people produce too much waste and

they don’t take care of environment

There’re some cleaning up problems+

About Sustainable Energy in Italy…

Hydroelectricity

The first Italian source of sustainable energy

with 2000 hydroelectric power stations (mainly in Northern Italy)

They produce 16% of energy demand

Plant Matter

The second Italian source of sustainable energy

with 52 incinerators (mainly in Northern and Central Italy)

They produce 2,38% of energy demand

Wind Power

The third Italian source of sustainable energy

they produce 2% of energy demand

with about 60 wind power stations (mainly in Southern Italy)

Solar Energy

The forth Italian source of sustainable energy

with more 40.000 solar energy stations

they produce only 0,2% of energy demand

But Italy doesn’t produce energy from tidal power !
