    British investor acquires manroland

    sheetfed division

    Ich bin ein Rolnder

An investor solution has been found for the sheet

fed business of insolvent manroland AG, just days

after a sale of the web machines business to Ger-

man Possehl group was announced. British entre-

preneur Tony Langley and the privately owned

    engineering group, Langley Holdings plc

    (www.langleyholdings.com), have emerged as the

investors behind a 100% takeover of the sheet fed

printing equipment division and its properties

portfolio in Offenbach, together with manrolands

    international marketing organization in more

    than 40 countries.

I am very pleased with the solution which willprovide a long-term perspective to the Offenbachlocation and the sheet fed printing business, saidWerner Schneider, Insolvency Administrator.Roughly 860 employees in Offenbach will be takenover... Tony Langley is well known as a longterm investor who acts strategically. I am convincedthat a lasting perspective has been found for manro-lands sheet fed printing business, Schneider went

    on to say.

Excellent basis to get back on track

We foresee very good economic prospects for man-roland sheetfed following the recent restructuringcommented Tony Langley, this is a world-class

business with an excellent reputation and its produc-tion and research & development facilities are su-

perb; everything one expects from the very best ofGerman engineering.

In a moving address to the entire assembled work-

force of over 850 people in Offenbach today,Langley said that today was the beginning of a newera and that he was confident the company wouldsucceed, finishing to spontaneous applause withwords reminiscent of the most famous ever spoken inGerman by an English speaker, those of PresidentJohn F Kennedy in 1963, Ich bin ein Rolander.

Langley already operates two highly successful tech-nology divisions in Germany engaged in the capitaltechnologies sector. In 2011 the group recorded rev-enues of approximately 500 million and a profit be-

fore tax of some 76 million with around two thirdscoming from its German operations. The group has astrong balance sheet with no debt and although it has

been agreed that the purchase price will not be dis-closed, it is known that Langley financed the entiretransaction from own cash resources.

In testimony to the strength of manroland equipmentin the market, almost all customers who had orderswith the sheet fed division when the former parents

bankruptcy was announced last November, did notcancel their orders. Satisfaction with these incrediblysophisticated machines is high and customers, hav-ing chosen manroland sheetfed technology for its ex-ceptional print quality and efficiency, have been re-

luctant to switch to competitor products, preferringinstead to wait and see what the business sale pro-cess yielded. They were not to be disappointed, a

better investor could not have been hoped for saidveteran Rolander Rafael Penuela, Executive VicePresident of newly formed manroland sheetfedGmbH. Langley is a strong and experienced indus-trial group that really understands the capital equip-ment sector and has long term perspectives on all ofits investments. The management are delighted withthe outcome.

All contracts were signed on 1st February and thetransaction received German cartel office approvalearlier this week.
