Hello GOLDEN Key Clubbers!

As we enter get through elections and progress on, we are

coming towards the end of the Key Club term. When elections

conclude, the elected officers will be going through the transition

period. Our current officers will be working with the elects to train

them on their duties and ensuring they will be ready to take over

after District Convention.

District Convention 2014 is right around the corner and will be

here before we know it! On April 11th-13th, Key Clubbers from all

over CNH will gather in Sacramento to find their golden ticket! Will

you find yours? DCON is an amazing opportunity to meet new

people, learn new things, and celebrate the end of a GOLDEN year of service! I highly

recommend attending if you are interested in getting more involved in Key Club! Please let me

know if you are interested in attending! I need to know before February 10th, as we need to

register very soon.

Until then, keep in mind the goals we have set. We love to see ALL of you at our meetings, so

while some of you may have lost interest, let us know what we can do to make meetings better

for YOU. Also, please don’t forget to turn in your service hours. We are getting closer to our goal

of 2000 hours, but we need to keep marching on. If you have old hour sheets, please turn them

in, as we want to give you credit for the hours you have served the community!

Thank you for all that you do, and have a golden February Key Clubbers. I hope to see you all on

Fridays!

The Play Project On January 15, 2014, I volunteered at Santa Susana Elementary School.

The service project is an arts-and-crafts club that takes place after school

from 3-5 PM. The club also incorporated lessons such as teamwork and

imagination. We had all the children separate in teams and had the

volunteers (including myself) act as team leaders. Then, we chose team

names and team mascots. My team was the Blue Skies and our mascot

was the golden mustang. We also created a team poster. Finally, we had

to make an obstacle course using old boxes, string, paper, jump ropes,

and even traffic cones! The kids made their own obstacle course using

ideas they had thought of and had so much fun!

Ongoing Events

Pop Tabs Throughout the year we collect pop tabs for Ronald McDonald house. This is a place in close proximity to a hospital where families can stay when their child is in the hospital. They recycle the pop tabs and use the money to help families pay to stay at the house as well as pay the utilities and other expenses needed to keep the house running. So keep collecting! They can be from canned beverages and even the tabs from canned food! S.O.S. (Save Old

Spectacles) We are continually collecting glasses for SOS. Check with everyone you know to see if they have any old specs that they do not use anymore. Keep in mind, the end of the school year is ending and if every member brings in at least 3 pairs of glasses, our sponsoring Kiwanis of Santa Susana will throw us a pizza party! Feeding the Homeless Our club helps at 2 different locations for feeding the homeless and we could always use more volunteers! We help with set up, dinner service, dishes, and clean up after. oStillwaters Cafe at Shepard of the Valley Church: Thursdays from 5-7pm oThe Samaritan Center: 1st Thursday of the month

January DCM/ Conclave

January 25, 2014

On January 25, 2014, I became a delegate for Conclave 2014, which took place at the Simi Valley

Town Center in the Community Room. A delegate represents a school or state and votes on

something. I, along with Breanna Scranton, became delegates representing Santa Susana Key Club.

During Conclave, there were three candidates running for Lieutenant Governor. We listened to each

candidate’s speech and asked caucus questions. Then, we voted on who would be the best

candidate for the position. In the end, the candidate from Santa Susana, Joseph Ko, won. Congrats

Joseph!

The 71st Annual Key Club International Convention will take place in Anaheim, CA

Every club should send at least two delegates and advisors, although many clubs

send all their officers and other key members. Make plans now to attend!
