Self-taught, he now builds wooden kayaks and canoes in a one-man shop in San Carlos and his wife describes him as happy enough to be practically insufferable. Proving that a degree in English Lit does not prevent you from doing anything, Chris found that actually producing something with your hands is much better than marketing anything. Flat work requires too much forethought and detailed planning for my way of working but when I put a piece of wood on the lathe I can let the shape and design flow. I started my selling career by putting items on EBay and talking to friends and relatives; then I was visiting my girlfriend in San Francisco and walked through the street artist area at Justin Herman Plaza and asked how I could get into the program. I now sell my goods approximately 4 days a week and do 3 or 4 craft fairs through out the year and am making a decent living. I have been in the Street Artist Program for just over 4 years now and it is going well. I have learned a lot about pricing, presentation, sales techniques, etc. – I still have a lot to learn but if I can give some pointers to your members it may be fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Diablo Woodworkers A Club For All Woodworkers
