reason for beginning this program was
to encourage the students to study the
Bible and to implement its truths into
their daily lives. Mrs. Massengale be-
lieves the lasting benefits of Bible
Quizzing for students include learning
to be competitive while having good
sportsmanship, learning to collaborate
with others, learning to interpret the
Bible, learning to be a Christian testi-
mony in public places, and learning to
heed leadership. She realizes that even
the bad experiences have still helped
the quizzers build character.
Some of her favorite memories of
quizzing have been: winning a compe-
tition on the last question of the game,
the fellowship on the bus with the fel-
low quizzers and their parents, getting
turned around in the bus, breaking
down on the side of the road, and other
crazy bus experiences. She also fondly
recounts listening to ten to twenty people
earnestly quoting Scripture on the bus in
order to prepare for following competi-
tions.
In 2008, we began hosting a compe-
tition at Indian Creek Baptist Camp. That
tournament is held the last full weekend
in September and is open to quiz teams
across the nation. The Kentucky Invita-
tional Quiz is a great way for teams to
“KIQ” off the start of a new quizzing
season.
Mrs. Massengale said that although
she and Preacher do sometimes get tired
of traveling, they have never regretted
beginning the Bible Quizzing program.
Her dream for Bible Quizzing is to see
all her grandchildren quizzing and seeing
each team support each other and be uni-
fied even in the bad times.
In the years of 2006, 2007, and
2008, Pleasant View Baptist School’s
high school Bible Quiz team placed first
at National Competition at Bob Jones
University in Greenville, South Carolina.
Although 2006 was the first year our
school won national competition, it was
certainly not the beginning our Bible
Quizzing journey, nor was 2008 the end.
State competition at Shawnee Bap-
tist Church in Louisville, Kentucky was
our starting point in 2002. The very first
team consisted of Jamie Calloway, Jackie
McQueen, Buster Henry, Timmy Phil-
lips, Samantha Eyler, and John Allen
Hardin. We placed second. Since then,
we have won first place every year. We
now have five Bible Quiz teams: one
senior high team, one junior high team,
and one elementary team.
According to Mrs. Massengale, the
Pleasant View Baptist College for
Ladies was established in the Spring of
2010 by Preacher Massengale and the
founders (pictured at right) because
they desired to create an atmosphere in
which ladies could be educated in a
Christian environment. Preacher and
Mrs. Massengale carried a burden for
Christian education for many years and
wanted to provide young ladies with a
place free from the sinful influences of
the world. Their purpose was to train
and prepare future mothers to fulfill
their Biblical role and responsibility to
educate their children.
The “Founding Fathers” of the
college are Mrs. Tiffany Bradley,
bookkeeping/ meeting minutes; Mrs.
Laura Voyles, Dean of Admissions;
Mrs. Amy Hill, Advisor; Mrs. Bethany
Conrad, Dean of Finance; Mrs. Jaclyn
McQueen, Student Involvement; and
Mrs. Jamie Calloway, Dean of Aca-
demics. After countless meetings and
much hard work, they developed ad-
mission requirements, a handbook and
catalog, and course work for a two-
year degree program with an emphasis
in education.
After four years, PVBCL has had
two graduates. Jessica Massengale, a
recent graduate, currently team teaches
fourth and fifth grade as well as the
high school girls gym class at Pleasant
View Baptist School. Multiple teachers
in PVBS have also taken classes
through PVBCL to enhance their
teaching abilities. All agree that the
classes taken through PVBCL have
proven to be beneficial and have had a
direct impact on student learning. In
the future, the deans aspire to offer a
four-year degree as well as someday
becoming accredited.

This college is a wonderful place
for young ladies to come and be able
to learn free from worldly influences
and greatly improve their abilities to
teach the next generation.

As an eight year old boy, God dealt
with my heart for the first time, and I
asked him to come into my heart. I can
remember in the years prior to being
saved always wanting to have the peace
of God in my heart. Prior to every
church service, I would ask the men in
the prayer room to pray that I would
get saved.
I didn’t understand what being
saved was until one May night in 1998.
I was walking down stairs to turn the
lights off when God dealt with my
heart. I always thought I would get
saved at church, but I knew I had to be
saved right then. I went upstairs to talk
to Dad, and he was already talking with
Jessica about being saved. My mom
took Jessica in the other room while my
dad prayed with me. I knelt down on a
green and white Little Tikes stool and
made the best decision I have ever
made in made in my life. Instantly, the
peace of God flooded my soul. It is a
feeling you can’t understand unless you
have experienced it.
I have failed God many more times
than I care to admit, but I am thankful
for the faithfulness extended to me for
the fifteen years that I have been saved.
My prayer and heart’s desire is to raise
my future family for the Lord so that
my kids will be able to experience the
same salvation I did on that night.

Travis barged in the door and wanted to
know what I was doing. Being a little
embarrassed I told him it was none of
his business, but he kept persisting that
I tell him. Finally I said, “I’m asking
momma how a man gets saved.” As
soon as I said that, he left. My mom
and I talked for several minutes and she
said that I needed to go talk to Dad. I
usually cry when I talk to my dad, so
before I got a word out, I started cry-
ing, and he could not figure out what
was wrong. Once I calmed down, I told
him that I needed to be saved. Mean-
while the Lord was dealing with Travis
upstairs, and before me and daddy
could even pray he came down the
stairs and told Daddy that he needed to
be saved as well. I knelt down with
Momma at the hearth and Travis went
into momma’s room and knelt at the
couch with Daddy. We both asked the
Lord to come into our hearts that day.
That day is a day that will stay fresh in
my mind and hold a special place in my
heart for the rest of my life.
The realization that I was a sinner
and in need of a Savior came to me at a
young age. The Lord began dealing with
my heart around the age of five. As most
children, I was afraid to go to the altar or
tell my mom that I needed to be saved.
Many times I would go to my mom to
tell her that I needed to be saved, but fear
would overcome me.
While sitting on my bed in May of
1998, as a six year old little girl, the Lord
began to deal with my heart yet another
time. I fought within myself whether to
go tell my mom or not. The overwhelm-
ing conviction I was under was more
than a young girl could tolerate. As I
walked down the stairs, I battled with
fear again, but I had to find relief. When
I went into her bathroom, I asked her
how a man gets saved. The moment
those words came out of my mouth,

Preacher preached a message here a
while back about being glad, rejoicing,
and testifying about the testimony that
we have. This message stirred my soul
and reminded me of the day that the
Lord saved me. I was an eight year old
boy in the third grade. I knew about Je-
sus and knew what to say and when to
say it. In the eyes of man, I was a good
boy and on my way to Heaven, but deep
down inside I knew that there was some-
thing missing.
I remember one night at the Pleasant
View Baptist Church in Taylors, South
Carolina at the Camp Meeting the Lord
began to tender my heart. I began asking
a lot of questions on how to be saved and
when I would know that the Lord was
dealing with my heart. It drove me crazy
every time that my Mom or Dad would
say that they could not explain how I
would know that He was dealing with
me, other than the fact that I would just
know.
It wasn’t until January 7, 2001 that I
realized that you can’t explain how, but
that you just know. I was at the house on
a Sunday night after church. We were
sitting at the table together playing a
game of UNO, when the Lord convicted
my heart and brought me to the realiza-
tion of my need of a Savior. I immedi-
ately began to weep to the point that I
could not speak. My Dad began to ask
me what was wrong and threatened to
whoop me if I did not tell him. I finally
was able to get the words that so terribly
gripped my heart out of my mouth, “I
don’t want to go to Hell.” We got up from
the table and went and knelt down by the
couch and I asked the Lord to come into
my heart. That was the best decision I
have ever made in my life.
I know a lot of young people have the
same type of story that I have, but I thank
God for what He did for me. I’m thankful
the bar stool and that He saves the dope
head off the streets, but thank God He
saves the little church boys too. Paul
said, “Unto me who am the least of all
saints is this grace given”. I am not de-
serving of His grace and mercy, but I
sure am thankful for it.

Reaching Out to Our
Community at Christmas Time
Christmas caroling is nearly a tradi-
tion of the past, yet on Sunday, Decem-
ber 22nd, we did just that! This allowed
us one more opportunity to share with
our friends, neighbors, and family mem-
bers the true meaning of Christmas. In
the weeks leading up to this event, we
rehearsed and recorded a variety of
Christmas music and put together nearly
1,000 Christmas packages together con-
taining a CD of the music we recorded,
literature about Jesus’ birth, and infor-
mation about our church.
Following our morning service and
annual Christmas dinner , we gathered in
the parking lot of Wal-Mart to sing of the
wondrous story of Jesus and offer pack
ages to last minute shoppers. From there, we
traveled to various streets throughout Har-
dinsburg, singing and placing packages on
doorsteps and in the hands of families in the
neighborhoods.
We were received well by many.
Some folks responded with smiles and others
with tears. Some joined in song, while others
listened in silence. Who re-
ceived the greatest blessing
from this experience is argu-
able. It was truly a blessing see
the people of God come to-
gether and reach out to our
community at Christmas time.

Bearing Precious Seed
Just before it’s conception in the
late 1960’s, Brother Don Fraser, foun-
der of Bearing Precious Seed, made
numerous missions trips to Mexico.
Brother Fraser witnessed many indi-
viduals and entire villages respond to
the preaching of the Gospel, but also
watched many of those new Christians
would struggle in their faith. With no
Bible or printed literature of any kind,
they stumbled and were deceived by
cults and other religious denominations
hungry to teach their own philosophies.
The burden that God placed on Brother
Fraser’s heart was that we must send,
not just the messenger into the harvest
field, but we must send him WITH the
message of God’s Word.
Bearing Precious Seed’s first days
began under a stairwell in the basement
of an old Baptist church building. With
only a multi-lithe press, it would take
6-8 months to print one Bible. Today,
Bearing Precious Seed has 3 web
presses and 4 color presses housed
within a full-functioning printing shop.
In turn, Bibles have been shipped to
missionaries in 115 foreign countries in
45 different languages. Where once it
used to take up to 8 months to print one
Bible, Bearing Precious Seed is capable
of printing 160,000 whole Bibles,
300,000 New Testaments, and
9,000,000 John & Romans in an aver-
age year. In the past six years alone,
9,300,000 Bibles have been printed and
passed out by missionaries, pastors, and
church members. In 2013 at the Soccer
World Cup held in South Africa, over
one million John and Romans were
passed out. Clearly, God has blessed the efforts
of Bearing Precious Seed. The numbers of
lives touched is unknown. The numbers
of people changed, saved, and convicted
by it remains uncertain, but it is certain
that God’s desire is for everyone to know
the gospel. Some families are called to the
harvest fields and others do what they can
from home. Bearing Precious Seed is a
home-based missionary facility, depend-
ant on the support of local Independent
Baptist churches for help with distributing
the Word of God. It is our responsibility
to take part in this ministry and pray that
God’s Word will not return void. Please
pray God continues
to bless this ministry.
Zimatlán de Alvarez is a town
in Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. As
of 2005, the town had a total population
of 18,370. Our missionary in this area of
Mexico is Bro. Troy White out of Land-
mark Baptist Church in Loganville,
Georgia. Bro. White and his family have
been serving in Mexico for a number of
years. Right now, they face several ob-
stacles in the ministry. First of all, they
have been experiencing much more op-
position than usual while witnessing
door-to-door due to a number of other
religious outreaches in the area. Also,
they are in the process of building a new
church building but have reached a stand
still caused by a lack of building materi-
als. Lastly, purchasing a van for faster
transportation is a current need they
have. The route for acquiring a vehicle is
more much more difficult in Mexico.
The vehicle must have a title without a
lien against it and must be nationalized.
Registering a van in Mexico could cost
anywhere from $1,500 to $1,700 in addi-
tion to the purchasing cost. Their desire
is to have a new form of transportation
by April of 2014.
In the last year, he and his
family returned to the U.S. for two
months to attend their daughter Stepha-
nie’s wedding. He is very thankful for
the help and good wishes of those who
attended and is especially appreciative
of the love offerings they received for
the wedding. While visiting the states,
they were able to attend a preacher’s
conference where they received great
spiritual help and were challenged by
Bro. John Brewer to be strong in the
Lord and continue in the Lord’s work.
Remember the Whites and
their special needs in your
prayers this year.

We all make choices in life, some
good and some bad. In Genesis 25,
Esau and Jacob made decisions that
affected them for the rest of their life.
By meditating upon verses 27 - 31, we
can learn from their mistakes.
In verse 27, we see that there was
truly a difference in the two boys. Esau
depicts we as Christians, and Jacob
represents the people of the world and
what they have to offer.
In verse 29 and 30, Jacob is making
pottage as Esau comes in from the
field. Esau got his eyes on what Jacob
had prepared to eat and thought it was
enough to sustain him. The problem
was that Esau and Jacob were two
different people. What it took to sustain
the scrawny “momma’s boy” and the
cunning hunter Esau were two com-
pletely different things.
In verse 31, Jacob makes the at-
tempt to take Esau’s birthright from
him, and in verse 32, Esau simply gives
away his birthright.
This happens every day to Chris-
tians, especially young people. They
fail to understand that there is a differ-
ence between themselves and the world
or simply choose to be as close to the
world as possible. Christians also seem
to get their eyes on what the world has
to offer and think they can’t live with-
out it. Sadly they throw away their
birthright for something that won’t give
them life or satisfaction.

Sunday School Synopsis:
Choosing by Bro. Tim McQueen
Our church pews were filled on Fri-
day and Saturday, November 15-16, with
members from our church, Mayfield
Creek Baptist Church, and Cornerstone
Baptist Church for a Youth Meeting with
Bro. Rose. Although we gathered on
this weekend and enjoyed fellowship and
good food, we all gathered with a pur-
pose focused on the young people to
obtain spiritual help. The young people
and adults alike were definitely provided
with a great opportunity to gain spiritual
aid with the preaching we heard from
Bro. Rose, Bro. Norris,
Bro. Keith Voyles, and Bro. Matthias,
and the exhorting from Bro. Jeremiah
Calloway and Bro. Jonathan Terry. From
the eyes of the spiritual beholder, the
meeting was a great “success” due to
God’s blessing on the services and the
great liberty that He gave to the men
who preached. The Lord met with His
people on this Friday and Saturday in a
way which should not be forgotten or
taken for granted. On Friday, we heard a
great message on “Reasons Why You
Shouldn’t Put Off Salvation” preached
by Bro. Rose, and on Saturday we heard
“God Uses Young People,” “Keep the
Way Clear: Let Nothing Between,” “I’ll
Just Stick with What I Know,” “Yes,
You Can,” and “God’s Cure for Leprosy.” As diverse as these messages
sound, God used them in harmony to
deal with the hearts and lives of those
attending the Youth Meeting. As Bro.
Crabtree preached the following Sunday,
we need to heed the word of God and not
waste the warnings of the watchmen
given during our fall Youth Meeting.
PVBC Youth Meeting:
A Great Success
life or satisfaction.
The good thing about the situation is
that God gave man a free will. We still
have the ability to chose what we are
personally will feed on. We have to
realize our standing with God. We have
to make a choice, and the direction our
life takes will show it.

Dear Church Family,
We would like to thank you for the sacrifices made to send us on vacation for a
week of fun and relaxation. We vacationed at Land Between the Lakes in
Gilbertsville, Ky. Our family stayed in a beautiful lakeside home and enjoyed
swimming, tubing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing. Eating was also a main event in our
scheduled activities! We had a wonderful time and are truly grateful!
Sincerely,
Preacher and Mrs. Massengale; Jamie, Jeremiah, Jillian, Landon, and Leyton;

Stop Looking at What You See
troubled on every side, yet not dis-
tressed; we are perplexed, but not in
despair; persecuted, but not forsaken;
cast down, but not destroyed.”
He maintained such a positive mindset
by controlling what he focused his per-
ception on.
Every negative thing that you will
face in the upcoming year will be
caused by temporal things. People,
places, politics, pleasure, prosperity,
persecutions, and problems all are tem-
poral. If that’s all you SEE, prepare
yourself for a miserable life ahead. To
overcome the temporal, you must focus
your sights on the ETERNAL. Here
are a few things that the Scripture de-
clares to us are eternal.
We have an Eternal Father – Have
you looked at Him lately?
We have Eternal Forgiveness –
Have you considered that today?
We have Eternal Fruit – Have you
seen the lasting effect of you labor?
We have an Eternal Future- A
House, a Heritage and a Home.
What are you focused on? Examine
As we step into the year of 2014,
believers understand that the prophecy
of the scripture is unfolding before
their eyes. As our Lord said, “Sin will
wax worse and worse.” Deceivers will
dominate the platform of religion, and
their deception will be embraced by the
masses. Truth has been rejected! Now
blindness is setting in. While living in
the midst of these unsettling times, the
child of God is expected to fulfill his
calling and do so with joy and fer-
vency. How is this possible when the
things we SEE around us have such an
adverse effect on our attitude and emo-
tions?
Paul, in II Corinthians 4:18, ex-
plains to us how he has kept the faith,
held to the facts, and controlled his
feelings though faced with persecution,
distress, and disappointment: “While
we look not at the things which are
seen, but at the things which are not
seen: for the things which are seen are
temporal; but the things which are not
seen are eternal.” Paul, in the previous
verses of this chapter, say, “We are
your attitude, fervency, and joy. Then
ask this question: what has made me
feel this way? It will always be the
temporal.
For further mediation consider the fol-
lowing verses.
