This phrase, stated by St.

Francis of Asis, is very valid. It is best led by

example than by words; as Apostle James says,

“Show me your faith without deeds, as I, by my deeds, will show you my faith”. Perhaps children

don’t do what their parents ask them to do, but

rather end up doing what they see.

St. Paul says it in his letter to the

Corinthians: ¨Woe to me, if I do not preach the gospel ¨. When someone is truly in love, they don't

have to speak of the loved one all the time ...

It shows! Their behavior is of loyalty and

faithfulness and it shows in their actions; they are

given respect because they respect their loved ones.

When someone is loved by God, their life becomes a service

to God, whom they love ... And it shows! Thus, you might say, as St. Paul

says, “It is not I who lives, but Christ, who lives in me”. Gal. 2, 20.

When Jesus healed Peter's mother in law, she got up and

waited on them. We see these actions repeatedly in the Gospel with

many who follow Jesus and serve Him once they have been cured of

physical illness or weight of their sins, as is the case of Matthew, Mary

Magdalene and many others.

In my 33 years in Priesthood, I have seen many touching

cases of people, who, after living a sinful life, are converted and serve

God and His Church with total commitment, even after receiving

contempt, abuse or are paid poorly. They accept everything with

humility for the great love they have for their God who has forgiven

them. He who has been forgiven much, loves far more.

The sick who seek Jesus, may seek Him for the mere interest of

being physically healed and perhaps get what they want, but being

cured, does not mean being saved. For example: the ten lepers that

Jesus commanded to appear before the Priest in the Temple, only one

returned to give thanks. That leper was saved, the other nine, were

only cured.

Jesus does not stay in one place. He continues His mission to

proclaim the Gospel, the Good News that salvation has come for all and

casts out demons who were not allowed to speak. If only we could also

expel the demons that make us think we're okay, that we can judge

others and that, once we are healed, we would serve God without any

pretense or awaiting payment of any sort. As Jesus Himself, who, being

God, did not retain for Himself the Divine condition, He was made in the

likeness of us. Phil. 2, 6. Or as St. Paul himself, who becomes the slave

of all to win them all, so that he can finally enjoy of the non-material

goods, but of the ones that come from the Gospel.

Serving Jesus, is serving thy neighbor. If we are not able to

recognize Him in the weak, needy, sick, imprisoned or deformed, He will

not recognize us in the final judgment.

Our life in Christ is a call to serve Him in the others.

Esta frase que decía San Francisco de Asís es

muy válida. Se predica mejor con el ejemplo que con

las palabras; tal como lo dice el Apóstol Santiago:

¨Muéstrame tu fe sin obras que yo por mis obras, te demostraré mi fe¨. Quizá los hijos no hagan lo que sus

Padres les piden, pero siempre terminan haciendo lo

que ven que ellos hacen.

San Pablo lo dice en su Carta a Los Corintios:

¨¡Ay de mí, si no anuncio el Evangelio!¨ Cuando alguien

está verdaderamente enamorado, no tiene que estar

hablando todo el tiempo de la persona amada… ¡Se le

nota! Su comportamiento es de lealtad y fidelidad y se

nota en sus actitudes que se da a respetar porque

respeta a quien ama.

Cuando alguien se deja amar por Dios, su vida se transforma

en servicio a Dios a quien ama… ¡ Y se le nota! De tal manera que

puede llegar a decir como San Pablo: ¨Ya no soy yo el que vive, sino Cristo que vive en mí¨. Gal. 2, 20.

Cuando Jesús cura a la Suegra de Pedro, ésta se levanta y se

pone a servirles. Esa actitud la vemos repetida frecuentemente en el

Evangelio con muchos que siguen a Jesús y le sirven una vez que han

sido curados de alguna enfermedad física o del peso de sus pecados,

como el es caso de Mateo, María Magdalena y muchos otros.

En mis 33 años de Sacerdote, he visto muchos casos

conmovedores de gente que después de llevar una vida de pecado, se

convierten y sirven a Dios y a su Iglesia con una entrega total aunque

reciban desprecios, maltratos o se les pague mal. Todo lo aceptan con

humildad por el amor tan grande que tienen a Dios que les ha

perdonado. A quien se le perdona mucho, mucho más ama.

La gente enferma que busca a Jesús, puede ser que le busque

por el mero interés de ser sanados físicamente y quizá obtengan lo que

buscan, pero ser curados, no significa estar salvados. Como los diez

leprosos que Jesús mandó a que se presentaran ante el Sacerdote en el

Templo y sólo uno de ellos regresó para darle las gracias. Ese quedó

Salvado, los otros nueve, quedaron curados solamente.

Jesús no se queda en un solo lugar, sigue su Misión

anunciando el Evangelio, la Buena Nueva de que la Salvación ha llegado

para todos y expulsa a los demonios a quienes no deja hablar.

(Cachetadas a tiempo. No se negocia don el Diablo). Ojalá también

nosotros pudiéramos expulsar a los demonios que nos hacen pensar que

estamos bien y que somos jueces de los demás y que una vez sanados,

nos pusiéramos a servirle a Dios sin ninguna pretensión ni espera de

pago alguno, sino como el mismo Jesús, que siendo Dios, no retuvo para

sí su condición Divina, sino que se hizo en todo igual a nosotros. Fil. 2, 6.

O como San Pablo mismo que se hace esclavo de todos para ganarlos a

todos, para gozar al fin, de los bienes no materiales, sino del Evangelio.

Servir a Jesús, es servirle en el Prójimo. Si no somos capaces

de reconocerlo en los débiles, necesitados, enfermos, encarcelados y

deformados, El no nos reconocerá en el juicio final.

El que no vive para servir, no sirve para vivir.

WORLDWIDE PRAYER FOR CONSECRATED LIFE.- Pope Francis has dedicated this year for prayer for those who are consecrated to the service of God and His Church in the

religious and priestly life. Do not forget to pray for the holiness of those who have chosen to devote their lives.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING.- On Tuesday, February 10 at 6 p.m. at Saint Joseph’s Church to count the votes of the elections.

PENANCE ACT, BURNING OF THE PALMS AND ASH WEDNESDAY - Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 18. It consists of forty days of penance, sacrifices and acts of charity that prepares us for Holy Week and the joy of Easter. In order for Lent to take off to a good start, we will have a penance service so that we may be forgiven for our sins. As a sign of penance, we will burn the Blessed Palms and religious objects to make the ash that will be used the next day.

This will take place on Tuesday February 17 at 6:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Church parking lot, if the weather is suitable. The schedule of the service of the imposition of ashes is the same as the Sunday Masses.

EUCHARISTIC THURSDAY AND WAY OF THE CROSS FRIDAY DURING LENT Every Thursday of Lent at 7:00 pm we will have a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament at both St. Joseph’s Church and the Missions. The same goes for all the Fridays of Lent. There will be the bilingual prayer of the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church and the Missions.

Bible Study in Lee Vining during Lent.- "Touching the Mysteries: Scripture and the Rosary" Little Rock Bible Study We will meet for 5 sessions on Thursdays at the Rectory in Lee

Vining, 6 - 7:30 pm, Feb. 19, 26 March 5, 19 & 26th. Please contact Linda or David Dore if you would like to participate (760-647-1055, dore@schat.net). We have a couple books in Spanish, but the discussion and DVD lecture will be in English. A small donation will be appreciated to help cover costs, but is not required - do not let that stop you from this wonderful exercise to help deepen our Lenten devotion.

DIA MUNDIAL DE ORACION POR LA VIDA CONSAGRADA. El Papa Francisco ha dedicado este año para la oración por quienes se han consagrado al servicio de Dios y su Iglesia en

al vida Religiosa y Sacerdotal. No se olviden de rezar por la santidad de quienes han optado por consagrar su vida.

JUNTA DE CONSEJO PARROQUIAL.- El Martes 10 de Febrero a las 6 p.m. en la Parroquia de San José para contar los votos de las elecciones.

ACTO PENITENCIAL, QUEMA DE PALMAS Y MIERCOLES DE CENIZA.- La Cuaresma comienza con el Miércoles de ceniza el próximo 18 de Febrero. Son cuarenta días de penitencia, sacrificios y actos de caridad que nos deben preparar para la Semana Santa y la alegría de la Pascua. A manera de prepararnos a comenzar bien esta Cuaresma, tendremos un acto penitencial para recibir el perdón de nuestros pecados. Como signo penitencial, quemaremos las Palmas Benditas, estampas y objetos religiosos, para hacer la ceniza que será usada al día

siguiente. Este acto penitencial será el Martes 17 de Febrero a las 6:00 p.m. en el estacionamiento de la Parroquia, si el clima es propicio. El horario de los servicios de imposición de ceniza es el mismo de las Misas Dominicales.

JUEVES EUCARISTICOS Y VIERNES DE VIA CRUCIS DURANTE LA CUARESMA. Todos los Jueves de Cuaresma a las 7:00 p.m. tendremos una Hora Santa ante el Santísimo Sacramento tanto en la Parroquia como en las Misiones al igual que todos los Viernes de Cuaresma tendremos el rezo bilingüe del Vía Crucis a las 7:00 p.m. en la Parroquia y en las Misiones.

MISA EN LEE VINING.- Con motivo de facilitar la asistencia a Misa para aquellos que no pueden hacerlo en Domingo, a partir del 4 de Febrero, celebraré la Misa en Lee Vining a las 6, p.m. todos los Miércoles. No hay pretexto para faltar.

PREPARACION DE MISIONEROS.- Dentro de poco, tendremos la Misión Guadalupana en nuestra Comunidad en la que la Imagen Peregrina de Nuestra Sra. De Guadalupe visitará sus hogares durante una semana y serán acompañados por misioneros que guiarán a la familia y vecinos en la oración. Si quieres ser Misionero, asiste a la preparación los Jueves a las 5 p.m. en 144 Sierra Park. Rd.
