Getting a ticket usually doesntmean good news, but in the case ofthe Strathmore-Wheatland AddictionTeams (SWAT) Positive Ticketing pro-gramming it does.

The Strathmore-Wheatland Addic-tion Team has embarked on a projectthats catching on in the Alberta area, over what they call building youth as-sets, said Cpl. Duane White with theStrathmore RCMP.

The goal is to have the enforcementpeople in town here catch young peo-ple doing good things, and reinforcethat through the positive ticketing cam-paign.The RCMP and municipal ofcers are

given the ticket books, with the goalof catching youth in the act of being agood citizen.

It could be anything from helpingsomebody across the street, or bikesafety or anything like that, its reallyjust positive actions in the community, said Sarah McKinnon with SWAT.

Most of the ones were for bike safetybut theres other ones for cooperatingin a police investigation and helpingthem out, anything positive.

McKinnon, a Grade 10 Holy CrossCollegiate student, joined the team inOctober. Her role with SWAT is to makethe follow up calls to the parents andfamilies and ask what they think of theprogram, if they have used the ticket, if

it affected their child in a positive wayand if they think it should remain in thecommunity.

She said she is most often hearingthat the parents are quite excited by it.The kids will come home excited andtalking about getting a ticket and theparents at rst dont know the positiveside of it. There are also rewards for being

caught in the act, such as a free passto Jumphouse Gymnastics, The Aquat-ic Centre, The Family Centre, a DairyQueen Blizzard and more. A majority ofthe so-called offenders are between theages of seven and 13.

the whole initiative of the Strathmore/Wheatland Addictions Team is to mini-mize addictions and make Strathmorea better community, and so I think thepositive inuence on the youth mightkeep them away from stuff like that.

Its a change of mindset for us too, were focused on enforcement andoften take for granted when you seepositive things, said White. The expectation is that the tickets

will be consistently handed out overthe duration of the program, whichhas no end date in sight. At last countapproximately 120 positive ticketshave been handed out since the pro-grams inception.

membered worldwide by Scot descen-dants. On January 27, 2012, Burns wasremembered in Strathmore by over 150

people in the Civic Centre. His fame has grown like a snowball,

since his death. It gets bigger and big-ger, said Worshipful Brother (WB) RobClark, a member of the Masons, whogave a biographical tribute to Burnscalled Immortal Memory.

Other dignitaries included WB EricDousou (Gleichen #36 Masons), WBLarry McKinley and his wife (Strath-more #53 Masons) and The Grand FirstPrincipals of Alberta (MEC Jerry Kopp).

Piper Gary Thurston piped in thehaggis, as well as playing tunes later in

the program. There were various toastsincluding one to the haggis, with andwithout Scotch whiskey. Haggis, tastingsomewhat like dressing, was accompa-nied by roast beast, tatties and neeps(potatoes and turnips), peas, buns, andpickles, and cake for dessert.

Many wore a ash of plaid and some wore full Scottish dress. The BurnsClub Singers rounded off the evening

with a chorus of Scottish songs. Many caught up with old friends and

made a few new ones wishing themwell with a goodbye verse.

Setting their sights high, the staff at the Strathmore A&Whave begun their newest campaign, A million pennies forMS. The Multiple Sclerosis Society is the charity of choice

by all A&W locations, and every year the Strathmore locationtries to outdo itself. After nding out their store was fourth in Canada for MS

fundraising, the staff and management knew they could dobetter this year.

We raised almost $8,000 last year, and we didnt reallyfeel comfortable being fourth when we knew we could do somuch better. We gured kicking it off with a $10,000 fund-

raiser was the perfect way to start this year, said managerWill Whatley.

Last year we did a coin drive, we went door to doorthrough some of the areas, just asking for spare pennies, something that one of my young lads thought of. Just overthe weekend we raised almost $900 in pennies. While brainstorming fundraising ideas, the staff realized

that people often have pennies sitting around which helpedform the idea of collecting a million of them for MS.

Im hoping to reach this goal in probably two months, Iwant to have my staff going door to door through the week-ends, said Whatley.A portion of the proceeds, 50 per cent, will be going di-

rectly to the MS Society, and the other 50 per cent is going tohelp Debra Grouwstra build a wheelchair ramp at her home.

Whatley said he had heard about Grouwstra from one of hisformer supervisors, and was told she had to spend most of

last summer conned to her house because she was unableto make it up and down the stairs. She was looking for funds to build a ramp so I gured

wed tie it together. Half the funds were going to raise willgo then to the MS Society and the other half will go to re-

building the front of her house so that she has an accessramp to be able to get in and out of her house, said Whatley.

They (the staff) are all pretty excited about nally gettingit going and really trying to make a difference, especiallynow that were going to be able to make a difference insomeones actual life as opposed to just giving money to thefoundation.

Fundraising has already begun, though Feb.1 was the of-

cial kick off. There are two coin jars at either side of the tillsin A&W where people can donate their pennies, or any otherspare change. A number of other fundraising events will takeplace later in the year, including a ea market, street hockey, the Kiddie Carnival and of course MS day on Aug. 30.

The book,Sunny Days, the ower withthe difference, follows thestory of Sunny the sunow-er, who is different from theother owers in the garden, and the blue eyed girl who was created to look likeJohnsons daughter Emma.

One of the reasons why Ichoose owers is because itdoesnt really relate to any-body or any race or colour.Flowers are not discriminat-ing in anyway, and every-body likes sunowers, saidJohnson.

I dont know what exactlyis out there on differences, Ididnt do a lot of research,I just know its somethingthat we need to learn to cel-ebrate and work together torealize that a difference isokay, and how we offer each

other all this stuff.Sunny is distraught be-

cause he is not like the oth-er owers, and he feels heneeds to be more like them.

The story illustrates Sunnyrealizing his differences arewhat make him special, andthat he does have a lot to of-fer to the garden. Johnson is a motivational

speaker who has CerebralPalsy, and has never let itget him down. Johnson isalso a full time father, Ki- wanis Club Governor Electfor Western Canada and iscurrently training to com-pete for a spot in the Para-lympics.

what its about is seeingthe possibilities in people, even though Sunny is notdisabled hes just different. Ibelieve we are all born nor-mal and we are born exactlythe way we were meant tobe, said Johnson.

Need to know about nancing for Bow ValleyCollege (BVC) online and part time funding butcannot get into the city to get the details?

BVC and Marigold Library are collaborating tobring the information to rural residents throughinteractive video conference sessions, shared be-tween several participating libraries, and tapingthose sessions so residents can access the informa-

tion at any time through the RISE website. It is very time saving and is convenient for po-

tential students as they dont need to wait to makean appointment to have some of their questionsanswered, said Stacie Baker, lecturer on StudentFinancing and Budgets. There are four sessions in all: Intro to distance

learning ran Jan. 18th, Student Finance ran Jan.25th, Career Exploration Techniques ran on Feb. 1and Essential Online Skills will take place Feb. 8th.Response to these will determine the effectivenessof the initiative and break paths for future use of video conferencing through the Library system, perhaps in course content delivery and tutoring.

If people are interested in viewing these, theStrathmore Library has the ability to link into thesessions, but you must call ahead of time. All ses-sions and posters are also available for downloadat http://www.risenetwork.ca.

Michelle Toombs, Director of Marigold Library, noted the network is very accessible as it can ac-cess all types of hardware interfaces, whereassomething like Skype is reliant on the other partyhaving Skype as well. She noted one of the otheradvantages is that it can be designed for groupsof people.A large screen makes for easy viewing and can

simultaneously post the presentation, the speakerand audience on one screen. If there are technicaldifculties there is on-site staff, or staff at Marigoldhead ofce can link in and solve technical issues. Toombs said patrons have successfully used

videoconferencing for meetings, medical consul-tations, distance education, as well as personalgrowth and lifelong learning opportunities.

For example, RISE facilitated a conversation be-tween local farmers and the Agriculture CanadaResearch Station, thus exchanging valuable infor-mation while saving time and money. Also, womenbusiness entrepreneurs in and around the town ofStrathmore held a videoconferencing session witha business leader in Colorado. English LanguageLearning students in Nanton and Hanna connect-ed with offsite instructors. Worldwide locationssuch as Hawaii and Australia have been accessed. The Library system itself has saved more than

5,000 hours of travel time and reduced their car-bon footprint by not travelling more than 225,000kilometers.Jesse Traquair of the Strathmore Library encour-

ages everyone to book the facility. There hasnt been a high interest to date, but

that is largely due to awareness. Those that have

used the system have been blown away by its ca-pabilities, said Traquair.

Strathmore Library can accommodate 69 to 165people depending on room setup. He said peo-ple do not have to be members to utilize the sys-tem, but would need to call ahead to book theequipment and room. Staff would be on hand forsetup and technical help. There is some informa-tion such as dialing strings that users will need tomake connection, but Traquair will advise users ofthose when they book. For more information callJesse Traquair at 403-934-5540.

    1 tsp brown sugar

    1/2 tsp cornstarch

1 tbsp vegetable oil1 tbsp minced fresh ginger root

    1 tbsp minced garlic

1 lb beef round steak, cut into thin strips

    1 cup snow peas

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice wine,

brown sugar and cornstarch. Set aside.

Heat oil in a wok or skillet over medium high heat.

Stir-fry ginger and garlic for 30 seconds. Add the

steak and stir-fry for 2 minutes or until evenly

browned. Add the snow peas and stir-fry for an addi-

tional 3 minutes. Add the soy sauce mixture

and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Lower

heat and simmer until the sauce is thick and

    smooth. Serve immediately.

The groundhog, often called a woodchuck, is

the only mammal to have a day named in his honor.

The groundhogs day is February 2. Granted, itsnot a legal holiday; nobody gets off work. But still,

to have a day named after you is quite a feat.

How did the groundhog come by this honor?

It stems from the ancient belief that hibernating

creatures were able to predict the arrival ofspringtime by their emergence.

The German immigrants known as Pennsylvania

Dutch brought the tradition to America in the 18th

century. They had once regarded the badger as

the winter-spring barometer. But the job wasreassigned to the groundhog after importing

their Candlemas traditions to the U.S. Candlemas

commemorates the ritual purication of Mary, 40

days after the birth of Jesus.

Candlemas is one of the four cross-quarters of

the year, occurring half way between the rst dayof winter and the rst day of spring. Traditionally,

it was believed that if Candlemas was sunny, the

remaining six weeks of winter would be stormy

and cold. But if it rained or snowed on Candlemas,

the rest of the winter would be mild. If an animalsees its shadow, it must be sunny, so more

    wintry weather is predicted:

The groundhog and badger were not the only

animals that have been used to predict spring.

Other Europeans used the bear or hedgehog--but in any case the honor belonged to a creature

that hibernated. Its emergence symbolized theimminent arrival of spring.

Traditionally, the groundhog is supposed to

awaken on February 2, Groundhog Day, and comeup out of his burrow. If he sees his shadow, he will

return to the burrow for six more weeks of winter.

If he doesnt see his shadow, he remains outside

and starts his year, because he knows that spring

    has arrived early.

Springs arrives on or near March 21, sowhether the groundhog decides to return to his

den or remain above ground, the sad fact is spring

will always have to wait at least six more weeks.

    Letters to the editor

To the EditorI recently attended the Brooks meeting of the Provin-

cial Task Force on Property Rights. I was curious as tohow it would be organized, given that Cabinet Minis-ters and MLAs would be there? What questions wouldbe asked? How was the feedback to be recorded andsaved? Most importantly, what type of feedback mecha-nism would be employed to conrm that attendees hadreally been heard? More on this later ...

Upon arrival, I along with about 100 others were di-vided into four groups. Each group had a personal re-corder and a large paper board and easel to write on.Once assigned, we quickly realized this was not a de-bate nor was it a meeting where details around govern-ment decision-making would be shared and discussed.

On the Alberta Government website it is stated (Dec.19 News Release) under other information that thosewho comment will not receive a direct response fromthe Government of Alberta. However, concerns, sugges-tions and ideas for solutions to property rights will beprovided to the Property Rights Task Force, and theinformation gathered will be incorporated into a Publicreport to Government.

Do you think this will be published prior to the nextelection? Can you trust it will tell the truth?

Now I understand why the Government Ofcialswho were there, did not have to answer any public

questions, explain what the bills meant, demonstratejust cause why they felt the need to pass these Bills, orbe personally accountable for their actions. Not one ofthem defended any of the controversial Bills (19, 24,36 and 50). An odd version of one way communicationwas the order of the day (they said they were listeningbut they wouldnt talk to us).

I believe they were petried of what they would haveto answer to. The people I talked with said the pub-lic consultative process is something that should havebeen done when the bil ls were rst introduced. Most ofthe solutions offered by folks in my group were exactlywhat we have in our Wildrose Property Rights policy. We would repeal Bills 19, 24, 36 and 50 and pass theAlberta Property Rights Preservation Act.

I invite you to review our website: http://www.wil-drose.ca/policy/property-rights/

It has been said that Democracy is messy. When Partyideology is in conict with consensus, as I believe it isnow, who wins? In Alberta, the PCs win, you lose. Foryour information, quoting from the Dec. 19 News Re-lease: We arent looking for consensus.

What does that say about Democracy as practicedby the PC Party of Alberta? J Patrick Boyer in his bookThe Peoples Mandate, Referendums and a More Dem-ocratic Canada writes about the value of consensus ingovernment: Our system of government depends, ulti-mately, upon the consent of the people being governed.Canada is not a dictatorship where tyrannical force isused to obtain public acquiescence in the measuresand programs of the government. Nor is it a theocracywhere we follow the dictates of our leadership becauseof blindly obedient religious faith. Ours is a democracywhere, at the end of the day, there simply must be pub-

lic consensus about where we are going, and generalagreement on how to get there. Without consent thewhole elaborate superstructure - the legislatures, thecourts, the nancial system, the commercial market-place, the acceptance of laws and norms of behaviour- will corrode until it collapses.

This was written in 1992 and I would suggest to you,

    Fule for Thought

Every job has its ups and downs, and sometimespeople need to nd humour in their day-to-day work.In my 29 years of teaching, there hasnt been a day

when I havent laughed, and since Im around teen-agers all day, laughter has also kept me sane! So

I thought Id share some of the strange and funnythings that stand out in my memory over the years.

I was teaching High School English in a portable,in what is now Crowther Memorial Jr. High. My classfollowed one of the morning breaks, and as of classtime, Johnny (false name to protect him AND me!)

was not in class. I asked the class if they knew wherehe was, and as Ive come to see with teenagers, theycasually threw him under the bus! A few replied,Oh, hes still in the parking lot hes in his car,

with his girlfriend!Huh, I thought hes late for class probably

will be absent and hes in that parking lot, just out-side my window! Okay kids, come with me, weregoing on a eld trip!

So, I took my whole English class out to the park-ing lot, and we surrounded his car! Luckily, Johnnyand his girlfriend werent doing anything shocking they were just chatting and smoking. He lookedaround with a stunned face to see all 30 of our faceslooking in through all his windows. I cant tell you

what word he mouthed, but he was surprised! I mo-tioned for him to roll down his window and said, when it comes to school, we deliver! The end result

was that he came back to class with the rest of us, weall laughed, and we even carried on with the lesson.Any time you have teenaged guys in a PE class,

sparks can sometimes y. In one smaller PE 30 class, we were involved in a competitive Floor Hockeygame. Im sure we were playing for the Stanley Cup,because two guys got very angry, and started shov-ing each other, about to ght. I ran over to head offthe ght, but one of my Gr.12 guys beat me there.

With no hesitation, he said, guys, guys I can sensetheres a lot of sexual tension between you two, but

Well, needless to say, the ght broke up, as we all

burst out laughing, even the two would-be ghters. This one high school student used humour to disarmwhat could have been a very bad situation, and Ivenever forgotten it.

In another English class, one of my guys fell asleep.Usually, I like to wait until theyre in a real deep, REM

sleep, then I smack the desk as hard as I can. Thistime though, I thought itd be great if we could allleave him in the class alone. So, we carried on talk-ing, as I set the clock ahead by an hour and a half. Imotioned for everyone to head to the door, and webegan to le out.

Unfortunately, I only got half the class out beforehe woke up, but he was pretty embarrassed at thelaughter he received. The good thing was, he neverfell asleep again! Sometimes Id look at him, motionto the clock and the door, and just smile. No wordshad to be said!

One time, some of my students turned back thehumour on me! One bright June morning, as I wasgetting ready to come to school, I opened the frontroom blinds. Debbie heard me yell something, Imnot even sure what I said, as I looked out to seeour front lawn. There, perfectly arranged, was someold mismatched living room set, done up nicely as aroom on my lawn!

It had couches, a chair, table and end tables, andeven an old beat up standing lamp! We were stunned, then we laughed, then we panicked, as we didntknow what to do!

I called the Town, but they informed me it wasntHeavy Item Garbage Day and there was nothing theycould do! I had to leave it like that for a few hours,

while I rounded up guys on spares with trucks, toremove it all.The neighbours enjoyed the show, and I learned

rst hand how funny, and creative high school kidscould be! By the way, a few years later, two newlyofcial adults came up to me at the Station, and ad-mitted to the crime. We all had a great laugh, and I

    was totally surprised!

Days of my life in teaching!

this describes the democratic crisis we have in Alberta in 2012!The Property Rights Task Force appears to be a classic pre-elec-

tion smoke and mirrors vote buying performance, paid for by ourtax dollars. If you have heard of the shadow banking system, weare now experiencing the pre-election shadow political campaign.

As I write this, the PCs are continuing to make promises usingyour tax dollars. How? By hosting public consultative meetings andpretending to listen. By making pre-election promises without any

effort to explain how they are going to pay without going overbudget (again). The writ may not have yet been dropped, but the political gaunt-

let has been thrown. The next election is just around the corner. Are you ready for it? The Wildrose Party is.

    Times Reporter

In todays society, un-derstanding technology is very important, which iswhy the Strathmore Munic-ipal Library is offering freetechnology courses overthe next couple of months.Jessie Bach will be runningthe technology courses un-til the end of March.

I have had a few peoplecome in just looking forsome basic help, sort ofgetting stuff started usingthe Internet and effectiveGoogle searching and thatsort of thing, said Bach.

It seems like everybodygot e-readers for Christmasso I have been spendinglots of time with people, just sort of helping themget their e-readers set upand learn how to takebooks out of the library.

There are a number ofcourses being offered be-

ginning in February, andthough they are free, someof them do require the par-ticipants to have a librarycard. There is also the op-tion of setting up someone-on-one time for those who dont feel a course-style session will providethem the help they need.

The big thing with thatis if people dont nd acourse that appeals tothem, or if they are a re-ally basic beginner thatneeds help with a mouseand keyboard and maybecouldnt keep up that kindof thing, said Bach.

They could really comein for any sort of computerhelp they need, my only re-striction is I dont do com-

puter repair and I reallydont want to mess withany viruses.

Some of the courses be-ing offered include usinge-readers, e-books, Over-drive, and e-resources.There will also be a gettingstarted course with Micro-soft Word, and Facebookfor beginners.

Career cruising, thatsanother online resourcethat we have but its superhandy. It proles a wholebunch of jobs and it givesyou tests to gure out what youre best at, like a reallife job bank is on theretoo. Im hoping to get thestudents out for that one, well see, said Bach.

She doesnt teach aboutTwitter but says she thinksthe biggest mistake peoplemake is, they go onto Twit-ter thinking it is like Face-book and try to nd theirfriends and have conversa-tions.

At least for me it didntwork like that. I use Twitterto follow a whole bunchof new sites, like CTV Cal-gary, CBC, the Calgary Her-ald and things like that. Ialso follow a lot of libraryindustry stuff, like all theprofessional associationsand any librarian I can ndon there I make sure andfollow. Its kind of whereI do my professional net- working and also newssurng, said Bach.

Registering in advancefor courses is recommend-ed since there is limited

space. More informationcan either by dropping in,checking out the website atwww.strathmorelibrary.caor by calling 403-934-5440.

The Strathmore Theatre playershosted a showcase of talent on Fridayand Saturday night at the Theatre inthe Strathmore High School to raiseawareness of the group and differ-ent avenues available in the town for

those interested in the Arts. The organization is completely vol-unteer driven and there are a varietyof opportunities for people to get in- volved. Each production requires anumber of people in a variety of rolesso whatever your interests, they canalways use and grow your talents. A few of the highlights from the

evening included a quirky play aboutcourtship, marriage and reconcilia-tion called Canker Sores and OtherDistractions; an anthology of playsby American Playwright ChristopherDurang, whose vibrant charactersincluded Prunella, played by LauraBakken, waitress Midge played wellby Doug Keeling and Martin played

by Mike Ell. One of the guild mem-bers, Michael Newton, who MCd theevent went on to say that the threeactors were similar to a combinationof Richard Dreyfuss, Meryl Streepand Dustin Hoffman.

Following this short play the Strath-more Childrens Choir (SCC) per-formed two pieces called The JonesBoys and Sound The Trumpet ledby their Choral Director Loralee Lay-cock. Laycock directs three separatechoirs in Strathmore, Bravo (Kinder-

garten Grade 1), Encore (Grade2 - 6) and Finale (Grade 7 and up).SCCs mandate is to give all childrenthe opportunity to experience the joythat music can bring in a fun, safe, friendly learning environment. Musictouches the hearts of those who hearit in a unique way, and their hopeis that the music our children learn

through singing in a choir will remainin their hearts forever. Laycock alsoperformed with her two daughters,RaeAnne (10) and Shelby (8) in anacappella rendition of Blue Moon. For more information on becominga part of Strathmore childrens Choircontact can be made through www.strathmorechildrenschoir.com

Guild Members Angela Reeves andDoug Keeling prepared a beauti-ful duet of the song Lets Call The Whole Thing Off. Their chemistryon the stage through acting was also very evident in their ability to per-form in this other genre.Tanya Wolff (Co-Chair of the Guild)

    gave a dramatic choral performance

of Into The Woods, complete withcostuming. She was certainly com-fortable in her performances as sheappeared in a few numbers of bothsinging and acting. The Guild is always open to receiv-

ing new members to come out andhave fun in the Arts. For more infor-mation about Strathmores TheatreGuild and how you can get involvedin a variety of levels please contactthem through their website [email protected]

Come Watch Our Run for the Playoffs!

Despite picking uponly one point on

    the weekend, the

    UFA Bisons clinched

    a playoff berth in

    the Alberta MidgetHockey League.

    The Bisons lost 6-3

    versus the Calgary

    Northstars on Jan.

    27 (shown here),before posting a 4-4

draw with the K of C

    Pats two days later.

It was a bad weekend on the scoreboard, but a great weekend in the standings forthe UFA Bisons. The local triple-A midget team failed to

win either of their home weekend games, but managed to clinch a berth in the play-offs by gaining one point in the standings. The Bisons opened the weekend with a

6-3 loss to Calgary Northstars on Jan. 27 atthe Strathmore Family Centre, before earn-ing a 4-4 draw versus the K of C Pats on Jan. 29, clinching fth place in the South

Division.Thats the positive I guess, said Bisons

head coach Jeremy Friesen of the week-end. No moving up and no moving down,I think were pretty entrenched in fth. Atthe end of the day, anywhere from sixthto third is where we wanted to be youdont have home ice advantage in that rstgame, but youre going to have to win onthe road eventually and weve been justas successful on the road as we have athome.

It is what it is and well have to makethe best of it weve king of dug ourselvesour own spot as far as where were at (by)giving away points. Weve let teams stickaround and this is the result and the stateweve created for ourselves.

No sense looking back at what was, we just have to make sure weve learnt ourlesson and get prepared for whats ahead.

In the rst game, the Bisons strugglingpower play cost them the win, as theywent a disastrous 0-9 with the man advan-tage. After giving up the tying goal latein the second period to make it 2-2, theBisons had a ve-on-three for a full twominutes early in the third frame that wentfruitless.

Shortly after, the Northstars scored fourgoals in the nal 7:55 of the game to clinchthe win.

Its almost like when we get a powerplay, we slow the entire game down, saidFriesen. We dont pay attention, we dont

execute plays, we miss guys on the tape(with passes) we think we have all thisextra time and space to get added creativ-ity and be the guy to make the play.

Well, it doesnt work were not get-ting the results. Honestly, I think its timeto give other players an opportunity andnot settle for guys who are not going to dowhat we want them to do.

We cant keep giving the same guys anopportunity for not performing. The Bisons then played their nal reg-

ular season home game against the Pats, settling for the one point that clinchedtheir playoff spot.

Despite going up 1-0, the Bisons gaveup three unanswered goals before scoringthree of their own. With the 4-3 lead, the Bisons gave up

the tying goal with just 2:12 remaining inthe game.

It ended up in a tie, and to be hon-est with you, I like the way we played, said the coach. Our power play was bet-ter we didnt get the results we wantedto, but our puck movement, attention todetail and our willingness to attack the netwas much better. We made four defensivemistakes where our d-men were trying tomake plays that werent there and thosefour mistakes ended up in the back of ournet. The Bisons, who have gone 1-5-2 since

returning from the Macs Tournament, willnally take a weekend off as the leaguehosts its annual all-star game.According to Friesen, the break will help

the Bisons get rejuvenated for the nalthree games of the regular season all onthe road before the playoffs start.

The break is absolutely huge wevebeen challenging these guys a lot and put-ting pressure on them, said the coach. Itwill give them a chance to get away fromthe rink, focus, recharge and realize howmuch fun they have when they come tothe rink and play this game.

I think it will help them out down thestretch here and hopefully we can benetfrom it.

The Gleichen Arena was lledwith many gure skaters of all agegroups from Strathmore, Bassanoand Gleichen, and their families asthey performed their various rou-tines for the packed arena.

Before these performances hap-pen there are many hours of hard

There is a lot of hard work and aculmination of time and effort putinto the performances that happenin matter of a few short minutes.
