Kingdom Values II

Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

Last Sunday, in the tradition of Moses, Jesus laid out for

the disciples and the crowd the choice that was before them

and is before us—the choice to participate or not to partici-

pate in God’s Kingdom, with the accompanying blessings or

curses depending on our choice. The dominate theme and

virtue encouraged was TRUST. Jeremiah contrasted the one

who trusts in human beings with the one focused on God:

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD.” Trust is vital to

being an Intentional Disciple, for it enables us to commit our-

selves completely to the Lord Jesus. Only with growing Trust

in Jesus and the Kingdom that he reveals are we able to em-

brace today’s teaching about our response to those who mis-

treat us—loving those who hate or hurt us.

To help us better build the

Kingdom of God at Saint Jo-

seph’s and on Cabbage Hill, I

am very pleased to announce

that we have hired Deacon Pe-

ter Jupin as our new Pastoral

Associate. Deacon Jupin was

ordained a permanent deacon

for the Diocese of Harrisburg in

May 2010 by Bishop Kevin C.

Rhoades. He recently retired

from Lancaster General Health

where he served as staff chap-

lain at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. Employed at

LG Health for 32 years, his work experience has been in the

fields of mental health, family counseling, palliative care, and

oncology.

Deacon Pete graduated from the University of Pittsburgh

and Temple University School of Social Work and his profes-

sional interests include the role of faith in healing, the spiritu-

ality of work and vocation, and the search for meaning and

hope in the midst of sorrow and suffering.

He is married to his wife, Beth, for 37 years, and together

they have one son. Deacon Pete and Beth enjoy tennis, liter-

ature, music and the beach. He also finds time to enjoy golf,

poetry, geography, running, and outdoor winter sports. Dea-

con Pete will be assisting with a multitude of parish ministries

including Baptism and Marriage preparation, bereavement

and liturgical planning of funerals, ministry to the sick, pasto-

ral counseling, and Youth Ministry. Deacon Jupin will begin

his ministry with us on March 4th. Please welcome him and

his wife, Beth, warmly as new parishioners and members of

our Community of Intentional Disciples.

Fr. Allan F. Wolfe

INDIVIDUAL & PARISH RENEWAL THRU INTENTIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

As athletes must train to become proficient in their sport, so Christians must cultivate our relationship with the Lord through the habits or disciplines of discipleship. Disciplines of Intentional Discipleship

In this second month of 2019 let us intentional-ly embracing the Six Disciplines of Discipleship and decide concretely how we will use them in our daily living:

Daily Scripture Reading Daily Prayer Intentional Sacramental Life Fellowship Service to the World Sharing Christ with Others

(Evangelization)

Daily Prayer - Our communication with God we call PRAYER. It strengthens our communion with Him, because it is not just words—prayers—but is an openness and intima-cy. Like good communication, prayer must be taught and learned. There are many forms of expressed prayer—thanksgiving, petition, praise, and intercession.

NEW as St. Joseph’s - Intercessory Prayer after Mass

Beginning the first Sunday of April and every 1st Sunday of each month, Mass attendees will have the opportunity to have a prayer team pray over them as the Holy Mass concludes;

Stationed in front of the Shrines to the Blessed Mother and to Saint Joseph, the prayer teams will pray for a specific, mentioned need or in general for anyone who wants to come forward;

Intercessory Prayer demonstrates our TRUST in God both on the part of the intercessors and the one seeking the prayer;

This form of Intercessory Prayer gives visible form to all the intercessory praying that occurs day in and day out by parishioners in their homes, in the Adora-tion Chapel, in nursing homes, and at work.

Jesus encourages this type of prayer: “I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heav-enly Father.”

To promote an atmosphere conducive to prayer, ALL are encouraged to maintain a reverential silence fol-lowing the recessional hymn.
