READ ACROSS AMERICA Why we have Read Across America: A child’s ability to read has a direct effect on their future success. Reading with your child helps to increase their vocabulary and improves their reading fluency and comprehension. NEA’s Read Across America began in 1998 as a way to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Seuss by encouraging children to read. Read Across America Poem You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, To pick up a book and read with a child. You’re never too busy, too cool, or too hot, To pick up a book and share what you’ve got. In schools and communities, Let’s gather around, Let’s pick up a book, Let’s pass it around. There are kids all around you, Kids who will need Someone to hug, Someone to read. Come join us March 1st Your own special way And make this America’s Read to Kids Day. Anita Merina

Spring ALP Testing Information In order for any student to test they must have a signed permission slip and a completed Gifted Inventory. (Both Forms can be found on the District Website or you may contact your students' classroom teacher to request.) The ALP testing window is February 1st through March 31st. Please continue to watch the Newsletter for specific testing dates for each grade level. 2nd Grade - Testing will be the week of 2/27. Permission Slips and Inventory is due by February 23rd. Kindergarten and 1st grade testing will be the week of February 27. All permission slips and inventories are due by February 20th. **There will be no blanket testing in 1st grade. ART Love knowing what's going on in the art room? "Mrs Bergman's Art Room" is now a Facebook page! (And Instagram too!) It is a work in progress,but I'll be posting examples of our sketchbook challenge, class projects, and other neat arty things. I'm excited to have a fun way to communicate with you parents and students. P.S. When commenting or sharing please remember school technology rules apply! P.E. NEWS... On Friday, we finished up Jump Rope for Heart! There was lots of jumping, mouse trap, snake in the grass, and ocean waves going on all week. Most classes played Risk Factor Tag as well. Ask your child what "OH DISH" stands for: O...Obesity H...High Blood Pressure D...Diabetes I...Physical Inactivity S...Smoking H...High Cholesterol As of Wednesday we have raised $4254.24 for the American Heart Association...way to go Neely Knights!!! I wonder how much the final total will be? Happy Jumping, Mrs. Pletzer

Battle of the Books Reminder: The 3rd and Final Battle will be held right after Spring Break on Thursday, March 23rd.
