West Bend Community Memorial Library February 2020 Newsletter "Snow Many Books": Adult Winter Reading Program Now through Friday, March 6 We're in the midst of our Adult Winter Reading Program right now! Crossing the Line Display - February 2020 In observance of Black History Month in February, we are hosting a display titled "Crossing the Line: The Milwaukee Fair Housing Marches of 1967-68". This display examines the practices and prejudices that led to segregation in Milwaukee and chronicles the school desegregation and fair housing movements of the 1960s. Stop by the library during the month of February to look at this display on loan from the Wisconsin Historical Society. It commemorates an important part of history. The display will be located on the second floor of the library. How to Raise Chickens at Home Saturday, February 1 at 10 AM This program will cover how to raise chickens at home! Recently, the city of West Bend made it legal for people to raise chickens in their yards. Find out basic chicken care, how to select a breed, how to prevent diseases, and how to be a good neighbor with chickens! This program will be presented by Stephanie Plaster, Agricultural Educator with the UW- Extension for Ozaukee and Washington Counties. Crossing the Line Display - February 2020

We provide the Legos, you provide theimagination. Children of all ages, genders,and experience levels come and build acreation of their choosing. different anime each month, and we're usually done around 5:30. Cosplay is alwayswelcome! For February, we're watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The Page is Loading...is a bring-your-own-book club. Wedon't assign a book, just come ready to talk about

something you've read lately, or your favorite book ever, or just books in general. We havea theme each month (February's is romance), but they're guidelines, not rules. Essential Oils forEmotional Well-Being

In thisclass, we will go over how to support ouremotions using essential oils.Aromatherapy is not just about pleasantsmells that make us feel good or help ussleep. Aromatherapy uses essential oils foran array of mental and emotional healthpurposes. Come to this class and find outwhich oils to use! Free recipes and noregistration is needed.

February Memory CafeTuesday, February 25 at 1:30-3 PM

Memory Cafés are places where persons with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), early-stage Alzheimer’s, or a related dementia can go with their care partners to socialize andhave fun with other people going through similar things. A Memory Café has no realagenda or stated purpose except to enjoy each other’s company. Cafés provide a timewhere you do not need to focus on the diagnosis, while having a great time connectingwith each other as a family or creating new friendships. February's theme will be "LeapYear"!

Mid-Week Movie Wednesday - You've Got MailWednesday, February 26 at 6 PM

opportunity for kids, who can readindependently, to practice readingaloud one-on-one with certified therapydogs. The dogs are a patient,nonjudgmental listening ear for the kidsto help them gain confidence andbecome better readers. Volunteersfrom the Washington County HumaneSociety visit the library with theirpersonal pet. Volunteers in thisprogram must be registered WCHSvolunteers and must have a certifiedtherapy dog.

Afternoon sessions will go from 3:30PM - 5 PM on Mondays andThursdays. The Saturday sessionruns from 9:30-11.

Storytime for Kids

We have several storytime sessions each week to choosefrom. Visit our website for more information on Storytimes.

Baby/Toddler Storytime takes place onWednesdays at 9:15 AM and is for ages 0-24months. This is about 15 minutes of songs, rhymes,and very short stories and always ends with bubblesand playtime!Preschool Storytime sessions usually last about 25minutes and consist of stories, songs, and rhymes, and the children can stay afterstorytime for a craft. Preschool storytime takes place on Tuesday and Wednesdaymornings at 10 AM.We usually have storytimes on Thursday nights at 6:30 PM, except on the secondThursdays of each month we typically have family night with a special performer.All storytime sessions are drop-in and do not require advance registration. Valentine StorytimesFebruary 11 at 10 AMFebruary 12 at 10 AMFebruary 13 at 6:30 PM

Join us for some Valentine's Day themed stories and songs! After storytime, there will be afew games and a craft. Geared for ages 2-7. Families are encouraged to bring Valentinecards or individually wrapped treats to share with the group (Granola bars, crackers,candy, stickers, pencils, stampers, etc.). Nut free is best. The library has a variety of Book Clubs that are available to thepublic. For a full list of our book clubs, visit our website!

Also, we are excited to announce a new book club called Bookson Tap! This group will meet next on Monday, February 24 at 6PM. 2020 Cookbook Sale

The "6th Annual Cookbook Sale...Plus More" is scheduled for Friday, May 15th andSaturday May 16th. We are accepting donations of new/gently used cookbooks; even GasCompany Cookie books. If you would like to donate to the sale, items can be dropped offat the checkout desk or to any library staff member. Thank you for your donations! Andmark your calendars for the 6th Annual Cookbook Sale.
