2015 RALLY ORGANISERS FORUM

On Saturday 31st January 2015, the CAMS NSW Rally P anel is conducting an Organisers Forum to assist clubs running a Rally or Rallysprint in 2015.This is your opportunity to meet with the CAMS NSW Rally Pa nel plus meet the other event organisers and learn from each other. Topics covered by the forum will include:

• Key officials. – What key people do you actually need, how to find them and how to train new ones. • Making sense of new rules including Frontal Head restraints • The new display clocks – how to order them and the cost savings to organising clubs. • The standardised rally paperwork that’s on Rally NSW website. • Driving consistency within 2015 series events. • One-pass Pacenoting – is it right for your event? • The Organiser’s and Checker’s manual (a work in progress for the Rally Panel) • Ideas to reduce the costs and breakeven point of events • What you need from the rally panel – what areas should we be focusing on to make your events run more easily. • Rally NSW publicity – what we’ve got in mind to promote your event, and to help you get a bigger field. Club member James Palmer’s home grown & blown 1979 Ford XD Falcon. James purchased the car locally when he was only 18 and yes it’s still his pride and joy now at the age of 35. This picture was taken at Mount Panorama pit complex on 29/11/14 in the morning just before scrutineering for the Supersprint down Conrod Straight and up Pit Straight. It was the cars first speed event since the engine rebuild/upgrade and since the Flying 1/5th where it ran 4.02sec & 111.29mph and in the Standing 1/5th running 9.95 & 44.963mph, at Mount Panorama back in June 2001. It was then naturally aspirated running an estimated 430hp. Although James went into this event with intentions of having fun and taking it easy so the engine would have a chance to run in and he could see how it would handle with the extra weight on top of the engine as well as watch all the gauges, the car experienced a clutch slippage problem and gear shifter jamming problem causing his times to be much slower than anticipated. Then on top of that, at one point he had the engine get quite warm as a result of forgetting to switch on the thermos fan while trying to investigate what was going on with the clutch and shifter. That could have been costly even though the car wasn’t on the track! He has to admit it was a little embarrassing driving through the back of the pits while other entrants were pointing and trying to grab his attention of the coolant dripping onto the tarmac. James only had 3 runs in the Supersprint before the onset of rain persuaded him to head for home.

Although his times improved each run it seems he still has some tinkering to do to get the car as it should be and to be useable with all the extra horsepower. Over all it was still nice to take it out for the day, James’ wife and children, along with a few of his friends, enjoyed the spectating and he saw lots of new faces as well as couple of old ones he hadn’t seen for years. He was able to chat to many that share a similar interest in motorsport and fast cars.

FEBRUARY MOTORKHANA

Sixteen drivers contested the February Motorkhana competing in five classes. Toby Ivanovic was the outright winner with a time of 180.42 seconds for the five tests. He was contesting the 4WD class.

Warwick Agustin won 2WD up to 2150 in his Mini while Daniel Blowes was quickest in 2WD 2151 to 2390. Ian Plenderleith finished second outright and won 2WD 2391 to 2574 in his Toyota while Stephen Hill threw the big Commodore around to win 2WD 2575 and over. Eight juniors contested the Motorkhana and Christopher Baker was the quickest with a time of 190.56 seconds which was also good enough for fifth outright.

NSW HILLCLIMB RD 1

Round 1 of the 2015 NSW Hillclimb Championship was void of the usual drivers but BLCC managed a 1st and 2nd in class. Andrew Walker was 2nd in class in his Tumham Bandit Open and closed sports car while David Wrightson drove his Morris Cooper to a class win in Sports Sedans up to 1600cc. The next two NSW Hillclimb Championship rounds will be at Mt Panorama on February 28th and March 1st.

33 CONTEST 2015 OPENER Toby Ivanovic won the first event of the 2015 BLCC Championship with a 4 second gap over David James with David Catt just 2 seconds away in third outright.

In the standard classes Scott Bradley won 0-1600 Mark Hudson won 1601-2000 and Mathew Reeks won 2001 and over. Geoff Sims won modified 2001 and over. Ian Plenderleith was quickest in specials 0-1600 while Martin McLoughlin took out 1601-2000 and Mathew Paul won 2001 and over. Eleven juniors competed, Scott Bradley was the quickest from Christopher Baker and Michael Moore third
