In his third adventure, Quincy the red horse findshimself face to face with a bully. Afraid of the wildanimals he might encounter while trail riding in thedesert, he seeks out Buck as a trail buddy. ButQuincy quickly learns that Buck is a bully, and be-cause bullies can be dangerous, it is best to givethem a wide berth where possible. Over the courseof the day, Buck shows that he is a coward under-neath a mean facade, and Quincy falls back onhis own strengths, conquers his fears, and makes ithome safely. His tale takes young readers on a veryreal trail ride where they will feel the sun on theirbacks, hear the crunch of Quincy’s hooves in thesand wash, and see the ominous late afternoonshadows as the sun begins to set. The story encour-ages empathy and love for animals while expand-ing horizons and providing a framework for helpingchildren identify and deal with the complex emotions and interactions involved in bullying.
